Castro was an asshole everybody knows that .
As far as the Cuban exiles, they'er not the only ones who ha a hate for Castro. There is the matter of the Cuban missiles crisis, more than one American was a little scared. You did know that Castro opened the prisons in Havana and pointed north to America don't you?

However these questions were never answered .
Is it a bad thing to have universal healthcare?
Is it a bad thing to teach kids to read and write?

Castro and the communists in Cuba are assholes because thy lied to the Cuban people. What started out in the '50s in Cuba as Castro pledging "land reform" and a fairer way to deal with wealth inequality and opportunity in Cuba for the poor (socialism)--- and a "promise" of free elections... never became that-- it became typical Marxist/Lenin communism. No free elections, forced redistribution of land, wealth, the means of production, and a complete monopoly on ideas and thought--- all controlled by the party--- a DISASTER for Cuba and the Cuban people. And all of that BEFORE there was an invitation from Castro to the Soviets to bring offensive ballistic missiles to Cuba.

But that doesn't matter. The Cuban missile crisis was a fight between the United States and the USSR. It was not about us and Cuba at that point anyway. It was conflict of gamesmanship between the big dogs. Castro was just a pawn. He didn't give a damn about his people. The push for literacy was a push to indoctrinate people. Castro wasn't aiming for free thinking when he wanted more people to read. Anyone who is too weak to understand that doesn't understand how authoritarianism works. The Nazis didn't need to teach Germans how to read, they just burned all the books (ideas) they determined they didn't want the people to read. Castro wasn't handing out Bibles to the newly literate Cubans, he was handing out commie manifestos.

Anyone who is incapable of understanding that even "good things" done by BAD PEOPLE are not really good things, are good candidates for the Bernie style socialist party.

Well , that's quite a stretch, so am I to believe that before Castro and his revolution , everything in Cuba was going great huh?
I'll just let that sink in for awhile .

Every once in awhile the bad people are necessary, history does not lie.

In 1943 Russia was at war with Hitler, when Churchill got ready to make allies with Stalin a lot of people objected Churchill was quoted as saying "if the Devil fought against Hitler I would send supplies to Hell".

Did Russia help to defeat Hitler and Germany ?
That's a yes or no question.
    Was that a good thing
    Another yes or no question
Was Stalin a egotistical murderous bastard who starved his own people ?
Yes that's my answer don't know about yours.

As for the rest of your history lesson I have 2 simple questions
Today in Cuba do they have Universal Healthcare ?
Today in Cuba are the children of Cuba only reading Communist manifestos ?
    One more question.
Are there any writers or celebrities in Cuba or are they all just poor Communist living from day to day?
What of opening a trade agreement with Cuba would that be too risky because of the big bad COMMUNIST THREAT????
