It seems like we are agreeing far more than disagreeing. I agree taxation is an important part of moderating usage, thogh it depends on how that tax money is spent.
The licenses I was referring to were CA license for recreational marijuana sales.
First, the more potent thing is largely bunk, as the old studies were flawed, using seized marijuana of widely varying quality that was frequently not stored properly. That created an artificially low baseline. High quality marijuana has been around forever. It's just more available now than it used to be.
The thing to know about marijuana edibles is that your body metabolizes it differently. Instead of absorbing smoke through your lungs to the bloodsteam to the brain, is take a less direct route through your liver, which produces a different chemical, and so has different effects. It takes longer to take effect and lasts longer. The dosages are measured differently, and people experience them VERY differently. I like it myself, as there's nothing quite like falling asleep and waking up still very high, which wouldn't generally happen with smoking.
My gf has never been a regular user, and a 50mg dose edible (fairly standard) will zonk her out for hours, whereas a regular user like myself would function fairly normally, feeling only a slight buzz.
You have to dial it in for yourself, and the process can be a little scary, as being too high can be pretty unpleasant, and there's not much to do about it except wait it out.
I find ~100mg is about right for me, and I generally dedicate a complete day to enjoying it.
