It looks like pot could tip the balance in favor of the Dem in Fla. Didn't see this one coming.

“Any politician who thinks they can alienate over two-thirds of the voting public and win, is kidding themselves,” Stephani Scruggs Bowen told me. She’s the wife of Michael Bowen, who uses medical marijuana to treat his epilepsy and was one of the plaintiffs who sued to overturn the legislature’s ban on smokable marijuana..."

"That’s a calculation that is playing out in a handful of tight Senate races this year, where an issue that has 68 percent support nationally offers a way for cautious moderates in red states...to shore up support from the liberal wing of their party."

Yep, the damn broke on that in the last couple years. If Colorado was the leak in the dam, California was when it collapsed completely.

Still, I'd encourage those interested to consider the details of their local law. In California, it was specifically crafted to protect existing medical seller's share of the market at the expense of new businesses, to the point where something like 90% of storefronts in the LA area aren't licensed.

At this point, voters will leap on anything that says legal weed on it, and some state legislatures will take advantage.

California messing it up was inevitable, though.

Red states need to get on the ball here, and it's happening, Oklahoma recently legalized medical marijuana and trend to legalize both medical and recreational is moving forward. This genie is not going back in the bottle and GOPers need to embrace it instead of fighting a losing war.

More states need to legalize recreational marijuana. If more do, then maybe the Federal government will finally have to make it legal. And if that happens, maybe people would quit moving into Colorado. Damned Texafornians, go home!

Maine legalized too. Have they started recreational sales?

They were supposed to start here in MA on 7/1/18 (originally much sooner) but the powers that be drag their knuckles as much as possible.

He's been slowing the parade down as much as he can.

If you believe I'm in favor of prohibition policies (in just about any form) then you've mistaken my position.

Tobacco prohibition would be bad policy for the same reasons alcohol and marijuana prohibition is bad policy. It rewards illegal dealers by increasing prices, encourages violence because dealers have no legal recourse, and is often supported by untrue propaganda, creating distrust for the government. There is also the considerable costs of enforcement.

When comparing marijuana to tobacco, the angle I like best is to point out that we've managed to reduce tobacco use significantly in recent decades through a combination of regulation (age and advertising restrictions,) sin taxes, and awareness campaigns telling the truth about the effects of tobacco. There is no reason to think similar policies wouldn't help reduce marijuana use, as well.

Whatever your goal regarding marijuana, our policy today is ineffective, rewards criminals, and is founded on lies.

It seems like this is the bast way to save the cigarette industry.

As long as the pot heads aren’t too stoned to go vote, we should be good.

Yup, that's it in a nutshell. It isn't that our states are completely isolated, and too many people travel back and forth for business of leisure. They shouldn't have to worry about CCW or a smidgen of pot ( I know, I know, it is just an example).
Get it over already and let people decide whether they want to toke now and then.

I was a little impressed several years ago when I moved and was examining my LP's from my college years.

There was an album titled "In The Court of the Crimson King". The album opened like a book and so was a perfect surface to conduct the business of a party.

Still has some stems and seeds imbedded or adhered to in the cardboard. Also, the original record was gone and there was instead a Mamas and Papas record inside.

Ah... The good ol' days...

DP members should meet up in some quiet place in Co, light up and hash out all our issues. We'd walk away as best friends.

All that needs to happen is to remove it from Schedule 1.

Marijuana and Bath Salts are under the same regulations as Heroine.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Why would we need to light up?

Hash out out issues? Depends on the hash.

Only the good kind. Tried some in Europe, didn't like it. Too strong for this girl.

We're retired, we usually absentee. Which helps, I can use the internet to try and find out about all the little stuff.

When I was in Europe, in the early 70s, you couldn't find pot. The hash could be super strong, massive couch lock. Esp. in Amsterdam..

I loved Amsterdam and the "menus".

I believe the argument would be better served if people stopped with the pretense of promoting medicinal marijuana and just promoted the correct stance of decriminalizing marijuana. Marijuana should be treated the same as alcohol for use, purchase, etc.
