Going to Pot

I believe the argument would be better served if people stopped with the pretense of promoting medicinal marijuana and just promoted the correct stance of decriminalizing marijuana. Marijuana should be treated the same as alcohol for use, purchase, etc.

It's not a pretense. My pot RX helped me a LOT when I had cancer.

It's also why the legalisation movement finally gained traction. People saw the stuff helping people, and they could see with their own eyes that the government was lying to them.

I hope that your are in complete remission and wish you well.
Many people haven't given even medical pot a second thought, unless they, or someone in their circle, is affected and in need. With an aging populace and the aches, pains and illnesses that come with that, I don't see how the anti pot stubbornness can last too much longer.

It's not stubborness.

Racists like Jeff Sessions needs the Drug War to be part of a return of Jim Crow. Drug cops want to protect their jobs, private prisons don't want to lose their gravy train, Big Pharma wants to keep killing people with their opiods...

Corruption, right down to the bone...

Thought we could have a nice conversation, but alas...

Funny, but I know several Trump Supporters that sell and smoke pot.

So, even though Pot is going to be a referendum in many states, that will not be the main referendum in the Fall Election.

Women's Rights will be what's on most peoples minds during the fall election, now that Kavanaugh is the nominate for the Supreme Court.

Thought we could have a nice conversation, but alas...

That's what politics is, at least it is now.

Expect what you've been seeing to continue, an inch by inch retreat by the corrupt.

A retreat they will be trying very hard to stop. This isn't the first time, you know. There was a legalisation movement in the 70s, but the Drug War crowd managed to scare people off. They'll keep trying.

Because this is all about Nixon's classification system, the rise of medical uses might keep another dramatic reversal at bay. But then I had hoped for the progress we'd made in Civil Rights to prevent another historic rise in racism.

That went well...

Tobacco prohibition would be bad policy for the same reasons alcohol and marijuana prohibition is bad policy. It rewards illegal dealers by increasing prices, encourages violence because dealers have no legal recourse, and is often supported by untrue propaganda, creating distrust for the government. There is also the considerable costs of enforcement.

Raising prices to prohibitive levels effectively reduces consumption of tobacco substances. And it is legal. But, yes, making cigarettes illegal simply drives them underground. But, they are "drugs" just like marijuana.

Yes, it provokes illicit trade, but that's just one more job for the police force. Frankly, abusing oneself on such drugs is a human trait since the dawn of time.

I don't smoke, and believe that anyone stoopid enough to do so richly deserves the consequences. Ditto for alcoholic consumption.

These "traits" of human activity go back a long, long time. Some say to the 15th century BC - so let's just try to minimize the consequences.

We humans will be humans, escaping reality as best we can ...

Whatever your goal regarding marijuana, our policy today is ineffective, rewards criminals, and is founded on lies.

Why not treat it like cigarettes? Very costly but legal, and serious jail-time for recurrent driving under the influence.

(Fit-out cars with breathalyzers? Some will find a way to get around that, so allow police to fine the driver and confiscate the car with resale being the consequence.)

... to the point where something like 90% of storefronts in the LA area aren't licensed.

So, take away their license?

Works wonders over here in France. Where the cost of smoking has skyrocketed due to increased taxation, and that seems to work. Vendors are closing down shop because demand is also failing.

Are you bringing the baked goods?

I've heard that the pot of today is different than the pot of the 70's. More potent...

Are the "munchies" similarly stronger?

It seems like we are agreeing far more than disagreeing. I agree taxation is an important part of moderating usage, thogh it depends on how that tax money is spent.

The licenses I was referring to were CA license for recreational marijuana sales.

First, the more potent thing is largely bunk, as the old studies were flawed, using seized marijuana of widely varying quality that was frequently not stored properly. That created an artificially low baseline. High quality marijuana has been around forever. It's just more available now than it used to be.

The thing to know about marijuana edibles is that your body metabolizes it differently. Instead of absorbing smoke through your lungs to the bloodsteam to the brain, is take a less direct route through your liver, which produces a different chemical, and so has different effects. It takes longer to take effect and lasts longer. The dosages are measured differently, and people experience them VERY differently. I like it myself, as there's nothing quite like falling asleep and waking up still very high, which wouldn't generally happen with smoking.

My gf has never been a regular user, and a 50mg dose edible (fairly standard) will zonk her out for hours, whereas a regular user like myself would function fairly normally, feeling only a slight buzz.

You have to dial it in for yourself, and the process can be a little scary, as being too high can be pretty unpleasant, and there's not much to do about it except wait it out.

I find ~100mg is about right for me, and I generally dedicate a complete day to enjoying it.

I didn’t say there isn’t some medicinal benefit to the use of marijuana. I said the overall argument is a pretense. In California it’s a fairly common running joke regarding the things you can claim to get your MMC.

Frankly...the argument should simply be made that marijuana should be legalized for recreational use. Medicinal benefits...that’s a nice addition.

I was a little impressed several years ago when I moved and was examining my LP's from my college years.

There was an album titled "In The Court of the Crimson King". The album opened like a book and so was a perfect surface to conduct the business of a party.

Still has some stems and seeds imbedded or adhered to in the cardboard. Also, the original record was gone and there was instead a Mamas and Papas record inside.

Ah... The good ol' days...

That's not how pot works anymore.
Even cheap pot from a street dealer doesn't HAVE seeds, and the flowering buds detach from the stems with a simple pinch of the fingers.
There's literally no such thing as "cleaning the stems and seeds from pot on a record album" anymore.
You just pull out a big fat bud, pinch off a piece, stick it in the pipe or manicure it to rollability and roll it up in a paper.
I can't even remember the last time my wife encountered seeds, I'd have to say NEVER, because she only started smoking when a doctor recommended it which was around 2002.

It looks like pot could tip the balance in favor of the Dem in Fla. Didn't see this one coming.

“Any politician who thinks they can alienate over two-thirds of the voting public and win, is kidding themselves,” Stephani Scruggs Bowen told me. She’s the wife of Michael Bowen, who uses medical marijuana to treat his epilepsy and was one of the plaintiffs who sued to overturn the legislature’s ban on smokable marijuana..."

"That’s a calculation that is playing out in a handful of tight Senate races this year, where an issue that has 68 percent support nationally offers a way for cautious moderates in red states...to shore up support from the liberal wing of their party."

The problem with that theory is that pot does not drive votes unless it is a single issue election, the majority of texas is pro pot yet anti pot candidates often win. It usually comes down to polital affilliation and other issues, like economy taxes and plans for the state/country.

I have had the stuff many times when I was younger before the army, seeds and stems were common, but on plants from mexico usually. I will not lie some of the best stuff I had was seeds and stems, someone I knew had a license to grow, and she would only smoke the premium stuff, and throw irregular buds, leaves, stems, seeds etc in a plastic newspaper bag, and that stuff was more powerful than much of the mid and high grade stuff from dealers, even being mostly leaves. It depends on who grows it, how lazy they are, or how far they want to stretch their product by mixing undesirable stuff with the good stuff..

Put it this way, I wasn't ever really a "pot head" back in the 70's, but if a joint got passed, I'd take one hit and be good for an hour.
With the stuff my wife gets, one hit puts ME OUT, flat out on my back "staring at the Aztec temples on the ceiling" (so to speak) for the afternoon.
Are the munchies stronger? They're the munchies...eat something!

Today's marijuana is no joke, it is serious buzz material but still, if you use it regularly you will attain a tolerance.
My wife can smoke the Hell out of it. So she clearly does have a tolerance at this point.
I can't even touch that pipe she uses, too strong.
If I have insomnia, one small hit off her little electric vape machine and I sleep like a baby the whole night through, and that's pretty much the only time I ever mess with it.

If you get a pot brownie, DO NOT EAT the entire brownie! Start with a quarter of it and wait an hour.
Never ever eat the entire brownie, trust me on this.

Ecig top ready to go. They are half or 1 gram (pictured looks like half), around $70/gram. Requires a $10 battery (3-5w is sufficient power, the smallest simplest battery works):

Ecig top called a coil for "low temp dab", $40. Requires a battery with 20w power (probably $20 will do for a battery):

The coil is (above) is used to vaporize this, a thick oil, around $70/g

That's how it's done today, gramps. :)

It's 80%+ THC, pure cannabis oil, no smoke, no cancer emphysema etc.

No no and no, today's weed, for the most part, is grown by people who know how, and there's no "blending" unless you specifically request it, certainly no blending with crappy product. Any blending that is done is to alter the type of effect that the product delivers, such as more CDB and less THC or vice versa. It's not mostly leaves either, it is flowering tops (buds) only.
It is female plants, hence the reason why no seeds.

And even Mexican strains, such as they are, are not the brown crap with all the stems and seeds of old. Mexican pot horticulturists are growing the plant at the same level of professionalism as everyone else now, but the fact is, California is to pot what France is to fine wine. We do a pretty damn good job of it here.

Yes I know, and 80% THC would put me out for two days, so no thanks.
But I've been bugging the wifey to try it.
Yes, she uses it legitimately for medicine but I'd be lying if I said she wasn't lots of fun when she gets a good buzz.
I want to see what 80% THC registers as on her giggle-o-meter.

And don't call me gramps...I might not have ever been a pot head, that doesn't mean I ain't been around the block, youngun.

These folks need to take a stroll through a legal weed joint, such as in Nevada. Their motels now have a ‘no weed smoking in the motel’ signs. Just go in your car and be cool.

Others may have told us of those spotted black seeds in green Columbian, back in the day. Those kind got planted, not the ****ty white ones. One might find little sticks today, but no seeds.

As great as the farm country is here in Iowa, with world-class universities, it’s amazingly insane they don’t have this cash crop. IA has moved severely to the right on social issues this decade, similar to South Dakota and the gop takeover in Wisconsin. This is my action here brother.

Or the days when pot would get you through times of no money better than money would get you through times of no pot. Nixon always clamped down during election years. My buds would say just give us back our pot and we’ll quit the other drugs. The 70s — then 80s — how much gold was lost up people’s noses then?

Now, gops are running the weed business. That’s what it took. And Colorado is now the next spring break thing. It’s big business, like all drugs. That’s who the USA is, since Prohibition. Etc. on all our VICES.

Folks shouldn’t drive on pot for a couple of half-lives for safety reasons, estimated at 30 minutes each. Think designated, just like with alcohol. I guess that’s what ‘coming down’ still is. Why ruin one's high by driving, unless it’s the open interstates and such?!

Top quality flower is about 20%. So an inhale from an ecig is like 4 of nice flower. But one can take a small puff, so it's like a few puffs of cancer, and have a mild effect.

It's a cleaner high and energizes unlike most flower.

No one goes back to flower, or should. Burning is an inferior high, is more expensive per high and causes cancer.

Much of the stuff today is blended, you must assume only premo growers are in the business, seeds and stems add to the weight, allow them to grow a cheap product with much filler, sure a good grower will have none of that, but much of the industry is illegal drug deals, by people who want to maximise profit, and selling the cheap stuff with filler is more weight, while premium sellers leave that stuff out or grow plants that don't end up with them in the first place.

I live in texas, here leaves and stems are common on anything below midgrade, when in cali leaves and stems were common on low grade as well, the exception being the one womans leftover weed, but she grew it so potent her leaves had more thc than most professional growers buds had, not sure how she did it and I was in no position at that time to question it, I was getting it dirt cheap with high potency.

The oil is available in every major strain of plant. It tastes like keef from that strain. There are no additives, flavoring, vegetable oil or anything else. It's pure and the flavors, depending on strain, vary wildly. I've heard the musty ones likes Kush, Gorilla Glue or Apple Jack are better than the fruity ones like Pineapple Express.

I know about vaping THC because Florida legalized medical a few years ago. After a few years, when dispensaries get running, vape products become available. Next year we vote for recreational; looks like it will pass.

Smoking is passe.

Putting M.J. legalization on every state ballot would be a great motivator to mobilize Democratic voters. Kinda like what the GOP did to win the 2004 election. I never have seen so many boys kissing on TV as I did during that 2004 campaign.

I'm not sure how a pro-M.J. commercial would go - but I know Doritos and Mtn. Dew would kick in megabucks!
