Wouldn't it be easier if people had the option to vote online? They would get an email with a code. Go on the website, enter the code, and vote for their candidates/laws?

If you are a shareholder of a publicly traded company, they allow you to vote like this.

Sure would be a lot easier than going to the polls or mailing in a ballot.

Yep, one rarely hears of any hacking.

Easier is a very bad idea, I was against motor-voter laws for just this reason, and just look at how bad the voters are now....

We do vote by mail here, which is also too easy.

Polling places and ID checks...

That is the way to go.

Bad idea, real bad idea.

I know something easier than that...don't vote...wonder what would happen if no one turned out to vote? No one...not even one vote...

Oh yeah sure, there are no hackers or anything that could compromise online voting

I want people to need to make an effort to vote. The ones who care enough to meet that need will be more likely to care enough to make an informed vote.

No...to online voting.

I doubt Republicans would go for it. High voter turnout usually works more in the Democrats’ favor. But while I like the idea in principle, even if it wasn’t hacked there would be enough accusations it was hacked to undermine confidence in the process. Just allow everyone to vote by mail until the technology has improved.

So why aren’t more states adopting all-mail voting? Little research exists about the merits of universal vote-by-mail, especially about the links, if any, between voting method and voter participation.

"The paucity of research is frustrating and even a little suspicious," says Phil Keisling, director of the Center for Public Service at Portland State University’s Mark O. Hatfield School of Government. During his tenure as Oregon’s secretary of state in the late 1990s, Keisling ushered in vote-by-mail through a successful ballot initiative.
Why Hasn't Voting by Mail Spread?

"We dont know because we never cared enough to find out" being so common now that it is almost the default.....because the Intelligentsia Suck.

EDIT: I now see that this is dated 2011.....but I am going to let this post stand in spite of its flaw.

A lot of people complain about voter fraud as it is now, particularly the GOP. I imagine this would do nothing more than get more people angry and create a more unnecessary discussion about "voter fraud" and "hacking into the election." Honestly, it would be easier to just vote online  but I think going to the polls is the best compromising way. Online voting would fix the issue of some people not being able to physically get to their polls but "online" people will think it's too vulnerable I believe.

"hackers" can easily compromise votes through the mail or in person. It is easier for voting fraud to exist in the mail compared to online.

It is not like your voting record is private.

It is MUCH MUCH easier for a single hacker to hack a website that would affect a group of tens of thousands online than it is for a single hacker to hack individuals through mail or even the unlikely in person.

You are making a bold claim based on very little expertise.
