What do Democrats and Republicans both like?

I do not understand why they piss and moan, why they don't understand the process and why they refuse to accept it.

Shame on you.

A democracy is either functional or dysfunctional and the method of voting is inherently the deciding value applied.

Admittedly, it is only one of three "supreme functions of the state" (Executive, Legislative, Judicial). But that function is key to any real democracy (or republic if you like).

The US is not a functional democracy given its unfair means of electing its national executive. Which is even worse when considering that for all other electoral positions (city/state/national) the politician is chosen by means of the popular-vote and nothing but the popular-vote.

The sole exception being the presidency. Sorry, but that's not a functional democracy ...

To the Framers, the electoral college helped to avoid the "tyranny of the majority".

The tyranny of the majority definition from Wikipedia:

Tyranny of the majority (or tyranny of the masses) refers to an inherent weakness of direct democracy and majority rule in which the majority of an electorate can and does place its own interests above, and at the expense of, those in the minority. This results in oppression of minority groups comparable to that of a tyrant or despot, argued John Stuart Mill in his famous 1859 book On Liberty.[1]

Potentially, through tyranny of the majority, a disliked or unfavored ethnic, religious, political, social, or racial group may be deliberately targeted for oppression by the majority element acting through the democratic process

Name one instance in the history of the US when the country was threatened with such a "majority".

It just doesn't happen in the US by means of the election-box.

If there is any oppression of a racial-group, it is by means directly of the nation's "social context". As is the case of blacks in America who have not been able to fulfill the promise once espoused by Martin Luther KING.

They are a people who are oppressed economically, as shown here:

Most will explain the above as due to insufficient effort by the black-population ...

Don't you hate it when a poster edits a post, changing the meaning and presents it as if it had not been edited?

I see you are showing progress in your understanding of our government (highlighting provided by me). The USA is not a Democracy, functioning or otherwise.

Now, if you will begin to grasp the idea of a Constitutional Republic, you will begin to grasp the foundational and guiding principles of the Republic of the USA.

I understand that you continue to piss and moan. I am failing to understand why.

Are you seriously that uniformed of the form of government in which we live and prosper? Another proud product of our public schools system!

I'm not sure what the origin of your pride might be.

I agree that Blacks in America are not taking advantage of the opportunities they have been presented. What would you suggest to be a good remedy for this?

I would have liked to have seen Barrack Obama giving commencement addresses, touring Black Communities and and organizations and repeating this message endlessly:

You're black. I am, too. Look at me. You CAN be me. Study hard! Work hard! Take pride in accomplishment and make yourself better every day. The only person who can help you and who will help you every day, is you.

Instead, he said that they have a bad deal, only Obama could help and they need to vote for Obama. Now THAT is the recipe to create the chart you display.

I really don't care about the effort put forth by any "population". I care about the effort put forth by every individual.

Until anyone understands, embraces and acts on the fact that they are responsible for the outcome of their own life, they are lost. That's just the way it is.

Poems - If--

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

You evidently have no idea whatsoever it means to be born black in a black-community in America.

Try it, you won't like it.

But you will certainly have a better idea of the reality of such an existence.

The sentence above is Pap For the Masses. Proposed by right-wing dorks who haven't the faintest notion of what it is to be born below the income-ladder. Which, btw, looks like this:

Now, you tell me what the difference is between the Oriental-youth of America (many of whom who - or their parents - came from southeast Asia) and those born in native-black communities of the US.

Quite an eye-opener the above info-graphic, isn't it?

MLK, in his grave, is still waiting for his dream to come true ...

Before anyone will exert considerable effort to do anything, they need a clear understanding of the benefit(s) of the goal toward which they need to work.

Why do Asians achieve at higher levels than others? I don't have that answer. It's not my job to have that answer. It is the job of those that have authority over the education and upbringing of both Asian and other demographics of children.

Where have those in authority been? They have had and do have some serious work to do and they have failed miserably.

Regarding President Obama, he was in a position absolutely unique in our history. He had the chance to say to those "born black in a black-community in America" that they could do better as individuals and as a part of a community in a state of growth and change.

He had the chance to say to all who would listen who were "born black in a black-community in America",

"You can do it! There is hope for you and for your family and for your unborn children. Be like me. Your future is your hands and you are lucky to be in our country and to be getting a free education. Embrace it and use it!".

Instead, his message relayed through Michelle was, "Eat more celery".

The problem in America is far more complex than the simplistic portrait you paint.

MBA's are all the rage nowadays, because people feel they need one in order to get a good job.

I have taught MBA-classes. They are about as boring as warm pee. The subject is as dull as dishwater because it lacks any relation whatsoever to what should be relevant in our lives. That is, fairness for all in a complex but healthy market-economy.

And that happened right underneath our noses. Instead of progressing as a nation to reduce Income Disparity, which would have allowed more people the means to educate and thus better themselves, we have an economy where poverty has remained constant over a great many years:

From the above, note that we are coming upon half-a-century of a poverty-rate between 12 and 15% - nothing of which to be proud.

Whilst a tiny, tiny number of families have benefitted from collecting colossal amounts of money. Which seems to be the Golden Dream of young Americans today and they seem to think an MBA can get them there quickest.
