Until some major natural disaster disrupt the states progress California is what America as a hold will look like in the future. I think its because the Iowa votes in which the media makes such a big deal about. California is a more modern and richer state and their majority is not being heard until the end of the election process.

It's pretty obvious that this arrangement benefits big money candidates, and given anxieties in the establishment wing of the party to marginalize progressives by any means necessary, the intent seems rather apparent.
