Constitutional restrictions on governmental action or personal action?

So it is a penalty imposed on the people if they do not comply with the Constitution's demands ?

And somehow you don't think that is a restriction on you in any way, because I feel the mandatory compliance to do anything is a restriction on me.

The demand is on the govt. The govt punishes us if we don't comply.

No, the Constitution demands the government conduct a census every 10 years, it also demands that residents comply with it at the pain of a $100 fine.

So if a cop holds a gun against your head and tells you do do something or be arrested with a fine of up to $100, don't you feel restricted ?

No I don't. I am quite free to refuse his request. I may not like the consequence but I am completely free to comply or not comply. You could more accurately say influenced but restricted? Not in my opinion.

BTW could you cite the actual text from the constitution that says $100 penalties are to be levied?

And you're quite free to shoot him dead, however there are, what we might call, consequences

And the consequence of no complying is a $100 fine or a stay in jail - how's jail for a "restriction" ?

Why would I shoot him dead? You said the cop was holding the gun to my head? You having a stroke or something?

Where does the constitution say $100 fine for not complying with the census?

Why would I shoot him dead?

Because you could...and because he was coming to arrest you for non-compliance
(people have been known to shoot others for less reason than that - like a dining area, in a McDonald's not being open)

You accept that you could do that don't you ?

He would do if you resisted arrest strongly enough

As Mao said, political power comes from the barrel of a gun, and he wasn't wrong

Article 1, section 2.

Article 1 section 2 has no mention of $100. I am coming to the conclusion that you are not in the same world as the rest of us.

"The U.S. Constitution empowers the Congress to carry out the census in "such manner as they shall by Law direct" (Article I, Section 2). The Founders of our fledgling nation had a bold and ambitious plan to empower the people over their new government. The plan was to count every person living in the newly created United States of America, and to use that count to determine representation in the Congress."

The current law is below:

13 U.S. Code SS 221 - Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute

Yea, really.

So if I own a bakery I can refuse to sell cakes for gay weddings.
Of course you can. All you have to do is set up the bakery as some exclusive club for like minded bigots in this case. Nobody forces anyone to open their private business to the public.

Or if I own a restaurant I can refuse to serve blacks?
Again, if you set it up in a certain way, yes.

Really??????

So you think people lose their rights when they open a business. You also think the govt should be able to dictate who you do business with. The idiocy of your position is to clear. Thanks for your totalitarian point of view. Fascism on display folks.

Who said anything about that?

You also think the govt should be able to dictate who you do business with.
How the **** did you come up with that?

The idiocy of your position is to clear.
No, just the uneducated ignorance by you.

Thanks for your totalitarian point of view. Fascism on display folks.
Again, just because you lack the intelligence to understand something and the education to know what other things are, it does not mean that others are at fault.
