The constitutional definition of well-regulated is well-armed, well-organized, and well-disciplined

:popcorn2: I see great things for this thread.

It means capable of holding a line, dying in place without breaking, via confidence in equipment, training and purpose. One, of course, would need access to the equipment and training. What equipment? Arms of a militia. Militia means infantry.

Article 8 clause 16 of the constitution: "The Congress shall have Power...To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia..."

Why do you think arming is listed as equal to organizing and disciplining?

It's Hamilton's opinion which Madison chose to use in the constitution

What's your point?

And there you have it. The National Guard (often cited as our modern "militia"), is NOT founded on the Second Amendment. Ther Second Amendment guarantees the right of "the people" to own firearms and other means of defense. Who are "the people"?

definition of the people those persons who have the right to practice religion, speak, and assemble freely; the right to keep and bear arms; and the right to be secure in their persons, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising when in actual service in war or public danger. Any person who has those Rights naturally qualifies as of the people.

In other words, citizens in good standing are "the people".
