?

No one on that list with the possible exception of Betsy Devos is as scary as the current moron we have in office. I'd drag my nuts over broken glass for Paul Ryan to be president. I disagree with him on many important issues. But at least we'd have an adult behind the desk.

Why? He seems okay.[/QUOTE]

The 'reluctant' Secretary? He was quoted as saying he didn't want the job and other than his first day on the job, he's been MIA as far as speaking to the press.

It's as if you read my mind (except for the broken glass thing).

Problem is, it's so much power, there really isn't anyone that should wield it all.

Exactly right, and that same Constitution that gives us the order of succession also limits the power of the executive branch. That's something we keep forgetting, to our detriment.

I think it may be more a case of congress refusing to do its job for so long that it's forgotten how to do its job. That has given us the POTUS doing signing statements, EO's, etc.

Total GOP control - have they done anything yet?

Carson, Perry, Devos.

Now there's some real leadership there! :doh

Beats the crap out of the previous number 4's. Both of which had been defeated in their quest to be numero uno.

Trump could have made a better choice just from Republicans. Personally, I'd be more than happy to see Powell or Condi Rice.

I hope it's a little more complicated than that.

We all know the textbook "co-equal 3 branch federal government" thing.

Even so:
the as yet unresolved "war powers" debate isn't going to prevent a genuinely genocidal madman from becoming U.S. commander in chief, and terminating the human race.
He's one of the few that can.

Be assured:
I understand the benefit of the unitary executive.
We don't captain our ocean liners with parliaments, that debate every decision before they vote on it.

If we did, half of them would already have run aground.

So we invest this supreme authority in one commander *, whose onboard authority is final, until the mutiny, or the judicial hearing.

* note:
The only exception I know is NASA's now retired shuttle fleet.
Those rocket ships actually were piloted by a parliament of 4 computers.
Landing them was fly by wire.
So the human would do the input.
Then the parliament would review the suggestion, vote on it, and any unanimous decision would be acted upon.

BUT !!

If there was a dissenting vote, that computer's voting privilege would be automatically, electronically revoked, and the remaining 3 would continue from there.

Your side didn't win. The winner gets to chose who sits in the cabinet.

Powell is a turncoat. Condi is an example of a been there, done that person smart enough to say never again and mean it.

We're off topic, but IMO both Powell and Rice were hired as token blacks, or in Condi's case a twofer, then treated as such by the people who hired them. Both are far better than they were allowed to be.

Nothing that reins in the power of the executive branch.

Nothing that reins in the power of the executive branch.

That would involve congress Doing Something besides pointing fingers at each other. It's been a long time since that's happened. Seems the current system involves the POTUS legislating by decree, and then the courts nullifying that decree.

I'm good with Pence even though I disagree with everything he stands for. At least his is not certifiably insane.

Miss Rice wold make an outstanding President (IMO, she's better qualified than anyone in the last 80 years). But she's also made it very clear that she wants nothing to do with the job. Maybe she'll change her mind and run, but I find it highly unlikely.

She would. Wanting to be President should disqualify one.

If Trump has to resign eventually because of Russian collision - Pence was elected on the same ticket by the same collision. He should leave also.

the line of succession is fine.
month 5 of liberal melt down in full swing still.

He won't.

I don't think Rice is more qualified than what GHWB presented as a candidate

1) Phi beta Kappa in College
2) War hero
3) successful businessman-something he did on his own
4) restored the honor and the pride of the CIA after the Church inquest
5) restored the honor and the pride of the GOP after Watergate
6) well respected congressman
7) Vice President for 8 years of a successful administration

hard to find anyone with a better resume than that in the history of the presidency

He did a good job, but still lost the second term. Why, I'm not sure. Maybe doing a good job and getting elected take different skill sets.

Congress almost had a budget deal through September until Mulvaney stepped in demanding wall money and saying elections have consequences.

Another week of intrigue coming up, this time over a gov't shutdown .
