Recommended Constitutional Amendments

I would a suggest an amendment to revoke Art I, sec 8 clause 1, to wit:

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, and to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts; and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States


why?.....under this power and duty also, ........it makes taxes voluntary, it is the 16th amendment to the constitution that places a compulsory ,direct tax on the people.

so TR is there.....there are greater men than TR, and they are not there.

the point i am making is the founders original tax, was voluntary.

the 16th is compulsory.

To constitute Tribunals inferior to the supreme Court;

To define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and Offences against the Law of Nations;

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;--And

To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.
 
If you could suggest constitutional amendments what would you recommend. Society has changed since the late 1700s there are things that the founding fathers would have included if they were writing it today.

- Something addressing immigration and naturalization.
- Clarification on the rights of US citizens under US law when overseas (Snowden)
- Clarification on the rights of US citizens under US law when in international waters or airspace (Snowden)
- A right to privacy applicable to invasions of privacy by government, individuals and corporations.
- A right to majority ownership of patents by the actual inventor as opposed to their employer.
- All Americans including government official shall live under that same laws with no exemptions. Congress shall pass no law requiring the people to comply with that members of congress nor any other citizen shall not also be required to comply with under an expanded definition of equal protection under the law.
- Clarification on the First Amendment that clearly forbids government from restricting citizens from expressing their faith including in the public square.
- Direct vote for President with a runoff in case no candidate receives 50% plus 1 vote.
- Prohibiting corporations and unions from being defined as people for the purposes of elections under a one man, one vote of just US citizens argument.
- Clarification on the right to a passport and freedom of travel.
- No income, estate or property taxation; just consumption taxation and taxes on imports.
- Renouncing US citizenship means you forfeit 75% of your assets.

How would anything in the Constitution help us with the Snowden affair? Just because we have laws doesn't mean that other countries have to follow them.
We have an immigration and naturalization policies. If you don't like them, then that is your thing. The right doesn't want to do anything about immigration, so don't hold your breathe on that front
I do agree that unions and corporations should be treated like people in political affairs.
Congress should be held to laws equally.
A direct vote would have been inconvenient in the 1700's. Any Constitutional change is seen as heresy by the right, so direct vote or any other good reform can't happen.
Not having and income tax is the stupidest tax policy we could come up with as a nation. Income and property taxes are the stablest form of taxation in the world. A flat tax would be the best way to implement an income tax, but that would weaken the IRS and cause job losses for accountants. Property taxes are state issues and all states have them. North Dakota rejected a referendum to do away with their property taxes so good luck.
Why does the country have a right to my money and assets? That is what the Nazis did to Jews trying to leave. If that every happened I would renounce my citizenship and move to another, more sane country.

Did somebody sue the shareholders of GM personally? News to me. Oh I get it, you don't understand the issue.

The liability protection afforded corporations isn't based on merit; it's a result of legislative action.

At the very least corporations should stop whining about being taxed given the incredible legal protection their owners are given.




did government bail out GM, to save the unions.......yes!....those same corporations which you rail against for having government do things for them.

Actually, it is the statists who are willing to initiate aggression* against the nation in order achieve their own selfish political ends. They are not concerned with the welfare of all but only the welfare of some.

* Violation or damage to another person's body; or trespass, damage, or taking of something owned by another.

2. Require an excise tax on the top bracket to pay for any military action within 5 years.

3. Ban activist judges from ruling that corporations are persons.

4. Ban campaign contributions except by individuals.

5. Ban local and state government from giving preferential tax breaks to favored companies, like Walmart.

6. End preferential tax treatment for religious and political organizations.

4,5 + 6 are very good. 1, 2, +3 need some work though ;).

All great ideas.

We might also think about expanding #3. The Supreme Court gave themselves the power to rule on the constitutionality of laws and their implementatin. We might want to make their opinion in such cases advisory only. The Executive Department shouldn't be required to abide by it.
 
We might also consider eliminating Congress' power to coin money. It would make sense for the government to collect taxes in a medium that the government doesn't itself create.

remove the power of government to tax income, go back to voluntary taxes of the founders.

return to republican government of the founders, with state power back into the senate, thus ending the lobbying of the senate by special interest.

The Federal government should have no ability to interact with or tax law abiding individuals directly, allowing for that to be done only by the States in which individuals are citizens of, have property in, or are visiting. Revenue for the purpose of funding the operation of the Federal government should be assessed the individual States, in its entirety, for the costs of what both the people through their representatives in House and the States through their representatives in the Senate have agreed to pay for and the President has agreed to make a Federal responsibility to ensure compliance nation wide.
Lobbyists would then have to expend great effort along with great expense upon a majority of voters as well as a majority of States to push their agenda giving voters the opportunity to accept or reject them rather than entice a simple majority of elected politicians to ignore their constituents with negative consequences more likely as a result.

How about no taxation without representation ?

People living in the USA and paying taxes, should be allowed to vote on who spends those taxes and how they spend them.
