CNN’s Enten: Dems No Longer Pro-Israel — ‘They Are Now on Side of’ Palestinians

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten said Wednesday on CNN’s “News Central” that Democrats were no longer pro-Israel when it comes to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

While discussing Democratic New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s victory, Enten said, “Andrew Cuomo, during the primary, attacked Mamdani for being insufficiently pro-Israel. I’m not quite sure the former governor understood how much the politics have changed around this issue among Democrats.”

He continued, “Who do Democrats sympathize more with, Israelis or Palestinians? In 2017, the Democratic Party was a pro-Israeli party. Look at this. They sympathize with the Israelis by 13 points, more with the Israelis than the Palestinians.”

Enten added, “But look at this sea change now. Democrats sympathize more with the Palestinians by 43 points. Oh my God, that is a change in the margin of 56 points over the course of just eight years. So all of a sudden, it’s the pro-Palestinian position that actually reigns supreme in Democratic politics, not the Israeli position.

Younger Republicans are joining them.

"But views on the right are shifting. In March, the Pew Research Center found that Republicans and Republican-leaning independents were more negative toward Israel than in 2022. Most of the shift came from Republicans under age 50. In 2022, 63 percent of Republicans under 50 had a positive view of Israel, and now they are roughly split, with 48 percent positive and 50 percent negative."

It's funny how when your nephew starts turning up in the news every day, you start distancing yourself. I mean, even if he only tortured a puppy...

I've always been aligned pretty much with Jimmy Carter. His book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid is excellent and balanced.

And I've read other books from regular people on both sides that live there.

If only those darn Israelis weren't Jews.
If only Democrats were as simple-minded as MAGAs that comment might have meaning.
As it is...

Heck, most New York Jews support Mamdani. Are you saying all those Jewish people are antisemitic?

"Mamdani’s success reflects the ideological realignment of many American Jews since the Oct. 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel that led to Israel’s invasion of Gaza. Many Democratic voters, including Jews, have grown dismayed by Israel’s conduct in the war and are deeply critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. That is especially true among younger, more progressive voters, many of whom have rejected the once-broadly accepted notion that anti-Israel sentiment is inherently antisemitic."

If only those Israelis stopped trying to steal other people’s land and murdering tens of thousands of innocent civilians.

This idea Americans are obligated to be loyal to a single foreign country above all others on the basis on religion is really, really strange. The fact the US is so subservient Israelis aren’t even allowed to be presented as the villains in action novels and the like— when there are numerous ones depicting other US allies such as France as antagonists— is deeply telling, though.

Fun fact:

Both parties in a conflict can be wrong. Both deserving of condemnation. Both can do bad things while they are fighting.

Rational beings don’t have to take one side to condemn and the other to cheer.

Because genocide is wrong.
I’ve been using “ethnic cleansing”. It includes killing AND displacing AND expulsion. And accurately portrays the root issue: demographics and reproduction rates.

This was the problem for the start. How to establish a permanent Jewish democracy in a land where they were already outnumbered by a people that reproduces faster.

Wow, this is a huge shift!

I wonder if those on the left still wanting a moderate Dem to gain attention, are watching this polling info, the AOC popularity, and the recent Mamdani primary win - are starting to wonder if the party has shifted in a way which is even shocking them.

I just think every country in the Middle East is more evil than good under their current governments. On top of that, the idea of supporting Israel to try and accelerate God’s plan is the height of hubris. God’s gonna do what God’s gonna do.

Nothing to do with the fact they're Jews, and everything to do with the killing, land grabs and oppression.

I have no desire to support a regime that drops a 500lb bomb on a cafe.

If I were an Israeli, I'd be horrified at the shift. At the moment, Israel still enjoys the support of the United States, but that is increasingly becoming confined to support by the regime and not the American people. If it is ever the case that the American people as a whole shift to the point of thinking that Israel is not their ally but the source of their foreign policy problems, that is a massive, existential problem for Israel.

Politics if fluid, of course. Israel could always pivot to Russia and China, but those would be extremely strange bedfellows for sure, and it's unclear how welcome Israel would be in a BRICS alliance. Their best bet is obviously staying on America's good side.

Israel and Russia are already fairly close.

I read shit like this and am amazed at how difficult it is for some people to grasp the concept of supporting PEOPLE while opposing the actions of a government.

I fully support the PEOPLE of Israel.
At this juncture, I no longer support the actions of the Israeli government.

I support the innocent PEOPLE in Gaza and Palestine - while also deploring Hamas.

I’m sorry that some individuals are so basic in their thought processes that they can’t grasp nuance 🤷‍♀️

Democrats are America's Hamas.

Much of the change is the migration of the center to the GOP and Independants. The democrat party has collapsed, leaving only the fringe extreme as members. The party is in their death throes.

Radical Islam fits with the Critical Theory the remaining fringe of democrats live by. the 1% of the middle east that is controlled by Jews is oppressing the 99% controlled by Muslims and thus must be destroyed.

Same bullshit song and dance again this morning?

You realize that there is practically no one that takes your posts seriously, right?

Maybe, just maybe, people are starting to realize that Israel is not one of the good guys. Not currently anyway.
Well, the left in America might feel that way. The right in America is quite pro-Israel.
