Twitter CEO Evan Williams / Reuters

The co-founder of Twitter apologized Saturday for the social media platform’s role in Donald Trump’s rise to the White House. In an interview with the New York Times, Evan Williams said that he recently learned that President Trump said he believes Twitter put him in the White house. “It’s a very bad thing, Twitter’s role in that,” he said. “If it’s true that he wouldn’t be president if it weren’t for Twitter, then yeah, I’m sorry.” The 45-year-old Silicon Valley entrepreneur criticized the internet for rewarding extremes calling it “broken.” Williams said that he was wrong for thinking that the world would be a better place if there was a platform for everyone to freely speak and exchange ideas. In commencement speech at the University of Nebraska this month, Williams said “some would say that’s what we deserve for giving the power of tweets to Donald Trump.” The White House did not respond to a request for a comment on Williams’ statement, the Times reported.
After 121 days in office, Trump is still tweeting self-serving and venomous "extremes".

That dude is a liberal hack. The sharing of ideas might lead to your ideas losing or they might lead to them winning. If he can't accept such simple terms then maybe he should consider shutting down Twitter.

Re: Twitter co-founder apologizes for helping elect Trump

Self-abasing apology and crocodile tears. Trump brings Twitter revenue and this apology is just another method to stir marketable controversy.

Slimy... but what do you expect of these social media tycoons.

Naw. Au contraire. It sounds more like he's only sucking up to his clients for clicks.

Ironic considering your posts in that abortion thread.

Re: Twitter co-founder apologizes for helping elect Trump

What a moron. If X helped to elect Y then X is bad, sorry about that. Of course, he stops well short of saying that he will resign his lucrative position (or sell his stock) in protest. ;)

Re: Twitter co-founder apologizes for helping elect Trump

What helped make Trump is helping to unmake him. Don't know if that really qualifies as "a wash," but I'll take what I can get.

What? Please feel free to provide a link to a post where I stated or implied I wasn't open to allowing opposing view points.

Re: Twitter co-founder apologizes for helping elect Trump

Riiiiiiiight. Because Twitter as a platform in general has SUCH great redeeming qualities....

For realz?

Well, we can start with this one, and if needed, refer to the posts before it.

Kind of doubt it, really. I have posts that show intent(he quite literally admits it word for word), posts that show he picks targets to belittle, demean and harass, and a host of posts directed towards me over several years that are belittling and demeaning well after the point I told him to stop multiple times.

If you really believed what you wrote: "The sharing of ideas might lead to your ideas losing or they might lead to them winning"; then you would simply stick to it, try making better arguments and then let your ideas win instead of crying about going to see a lawyer because you are being picked on.

It's actually a blast. I'm slowly but surely getting the hang of it. Some of the formatting is unusual and awkward when trying to argue in a "thread." But, I love the idea of mastering one-liners.

There is a difference between making fun of people with belittling comments over several years and sharing political view points. There is no exchange of political view points by calling someone else stupid or ignorant repeatedly for years on end.

Lol, he's going to get a lawyer to quiet down somebody who was mean to him on the internet... with ideas like this:

Should is irrelevant and doesn't actually exist. "Should" is nothing more than your desire for things to be how you want them.

Lmao, yo CC, if what Henrin says in that post really happens, I'll cover your lawyer's fees and remind Henrin of his position on twitter.

That's not an example of such a post. How about we get back on topic and stop talking about me?

You think so? I think it has just further enabled to decline of discourse. About the only fun thing we do with Twitter these days is play the Twitter version of 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon, 6 Degrees of Nina Hartley. The goal of the game is to see how many #tags it takes from any given Tweet to hit porn. Usually you can do it in 3 or less.

... uh, your response to somebody telling you their opinion of your opinion triggered you into shouting off about how you were getting this stuff ready for a lawyer. Yet here you are, telling everyone that the sharing of ideas might lead to your ideas losing or they might lead to them winning.

You literally discussed legal action against somebody who told you that your opinions were absurd and not consistent with reality. Your ideas lost, so you threatened with a lawyer.

I didn't read that post of yours. Again, get back on topic and stop talking about me.

Exactly. Twitter is there for the lulz

You were the one who discussed the sharing of ideas... we're just pointing out how willingly you are to grab a lawyer when that's not working out so well for you.

You have no idea what you are even talking about. There is nothing wrong with the last post made by Captain in that thread nor was the comment directed towards his behavior in that post. Learn what you are talking about before you speak.

Or what? You gonna get your big mean lawyer to come silence me at 'Debate Politics'?

Lol.

If you have the better ideas, you should be able to articulate them and win the argument. Thereby turning the tables on your nemesis and making him look foolish.

Lol.

Online harrassment is illegal and if you knew anything about my complaint against Captain you would realize that it is speaking towards a long existing pattern of behavior that has nothing to do with the sharing of ideas. Again, learn what you are talking about before you speak and stop talking about me in a thread not in fact about me.

Do you even realize that I have talked Captain for 100+ pages in threads over the last several years? Do you even realize that in those threads the majority of his posts are not even sharing ideas, but are only belittling comments?
