Every week/day/hour, as we are given new insights into Trumps pathological dishonesty, I'm wondering where the tipping point is. What on Earth must this moron do to lose his base?
On the news this morning, they were talking to Trump supporters in Wisconsin. They were still on board the Trump bandwagon, parroting Trump's revised opinions without an ounce of noticeable shame.
To my dismay, they spoke of the importance of maintaining their allegiance to the president, to his fluid message. I wondered out loud, "Where does their allegiance to American values and the constitution fall on that list of priorities?" Sadly, I don't think it does.
We've had other presidents who were womanizers, who were self interested fascists, who were dishonest, who had dishonored our nation abroad, but not all in one package. Trump is like a test of our desire to have respectable leadership and an astonishingly large number of us seem NOT to care about that.
The news was remiss in merely reporting on this without drawing any conclusions. The obvious one is that American values have been replaced by partisan ones, the foremost being political power. The Republicans have seemingly decided that the only dumb decision, statement or president is the one who loses. Objectively low intellectual and moral standards have long since been adopted by them and they maintain them through apathy to the truth and an indifference to human decency.
If that attitude does not earn them a devastating defeat in November, we are lost.
