Christopher Watts will appear in court today, accused of killing his pregnant wife and two little girls, 3 and 4. I watched the interview he gave on his front porch to the press, and he was so sincere--so desperate for his family to come home. I was struck by how normal this man seemed. Two darling little girls, his first son on the way, a wife who posted to social media all the time how wonderful he was. He has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of tampering with a corpse, and also unlawful termination of a pregnancy.

And his story now is that his wife returned home from a business trip, he told her he wanted to separate, she strangled one little girl, and in a "rage" as he saw her strangling the other, he strangled her.

And, surprise, surprise, he was carrying on with a coworker. What did he hope to accomplish by killing his family? How can someone so sick appear to be so normal?!

I agree with what you said and I'd like to add he's an evil coward.

This guy is useless and if he is proven guilty I hope he gets the death penalty and they do it the next day.

Too easy, IMO. I'd like for him to live a very long and healthy life in solitary confinement for 23 out of 24 hours surrounded by photos of his little girls and, if available, ultrasounds of his unborn son.

Let us remember that he's innocent until proven otherwise. He admitted to strangling his wife, so he became a prime suspect very quickly. Did he think that he would not?

Remember Susan Smith? When I watched his interview, I immediately thought of her and told my DH..."He did it..."

Is there a motive for killing the children?

Is there a motive for killing the children?

Not yet. And, of course, you can't answer this question any more than I can, thank heavens, but how could you put your hands around your 3 and 4-year old daughters' necks and squeeze the life out of them? How could this man do this?

How could anybody... there definitely has to be some kind of emotional or mental disorder to do it.

I saw that but for the prosecutor to get him for killing the girls he needs a motive.

What he's said, but prosecutors didn't buy it for a second, is that he saw that his wife had strangled the one little girl and was strangling the other and that he went crazy and strangled her.

It was Ordinary Men who committed the Holocaust.

The reality is that evil is not a long step away from most people.

That is a reason, not a motive... but they would have to prove that too.

I don't like the crazy defense though. Crazy is irrelevant to murdering..

A pretty stupid defense, actually.

You know, I'm going to have to disagree with you. I think it was pretty smart--you saw your baby's lifeless body and the other being strangled, and you went crazy.

The only things I can imagine is that he abused them or they were otherwise witnesses. Or maybe he wanted "a clean slate". Explaining crazy is impossible, pretty much a waste of time. If the experts investigating somehow figure out "why", we'll hear.

And did the same thing? No.

Oh, I agree...no excuse he gives will ever make sense...as Nota said, some people are just evil and I think he's one...

I hear you, but I meant as a legal defense option, it is pretty stupid. Anybody who kills anybody is crazy in my opinion.

And did the same thing? No.

I almost said that... more believable is that he smashed her head or punched her to death or used a pot or something...

One would restrain the person, not by choice kill them in the same manner as they killed others.

It's ridiculous.

I would shoot him for free, convict him and put him down.
