Strange alien world found to have water vapor and possibly rain clouds

Exoplanet K2-18 b lies in the habitable zone of its host star some 110 light-years from Earth.

In a major first, scientists have detected water vapor and possibly even liquid water clouds that rain in the atmosphere of a strange exoplanet that lies in the habitable zone of its host star about 110 light-years from Earth.

A new study focuses on K2-18 b, an exoplanet discovered in 2015, orbits a red dwarf star close enough to receive about the same amount of radiation from its star as Earth does from our sun.

Elon Musk will soon be taking reservations - one-way trip. A lot of folks who are unhappy with Trump should jump at this one, even though their great grandchildren will be the ones who arrive on the new planet.

110 light years? Their great grandchildren would be a million years dead before they even got close.

Why should we be the ones to leave? Send Tweety and the Space Farce there.

Red dwarf stars are on the cool/dim side although they last far longer than main sequence stars.

Such an exoplanet could possibly be habitable with a durable magnetic field.

But not by any life we'd be likely to recognize, at least if it is in the form of organisms of significant size. Take a look at the article. They are speculating it is most likely a small rocky core surrounded by a thick high-pressure gas (probably hydrogen) envelope with some water vapor. Nothing like we know could live on the tiny surface of the core, nor would water pool there.

I agree. Exobiology here would probably have to exist in the upper cloud regions of the atmosphere. Small & lightweight. Avoiding the condense/evaporation cycle.
