An adviser for the Senate Judiciary Committee has resigned amid questions from NBC News about a previous sexual harassment complaint.

WASHINGTON — A press adviser helping lead the Senate Judiciary Committee’s response to a sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has stepped down amid evidence he was fired from a previous political job in part because of a sexual harassment allegation against him.

Garrett Ventry, 29, who served as a communications aide to the committee chaired by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, had been helping coordinate the majority party's messaging in the wake of Christine Blasey Ford’s claim that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her 36 years ago at a high school party. In a response to NBC News, Ventry denied any past "allegations of misconduct."
===================================================
Ventry has a checkered employment past. He had worked for North Carolina House Majority Leader John Bell, who fired Ventry after several months over questions of 'misconduct.'

'Sources familiar with the situation said Ventry was let go from Bell’s office after parts of his résumé were found to have been embellished, and because he faced an accusation of sexual harassment from a female employee of the North Carolina General Assembly's Republican staff.'

Sounds like a typically fine Republican. Why would they want to lose such an asset?

Right now the targets are members of the GOP. Note we've also had allegations against Democrats, with less outrage and news coverage.

This thanks to the current political climate, and the heat is on the Republicans...that worm can and will turn if the Democrats take control.

And so it goes... :coffeepap:

Way to broad-brush the entire Republican Party. And in answer to your stupid question, the Committee apparently didn't know about his embellished resume or the accusation of sexual harassment, and when it did learn, it let him go. What would you have had them do?

I'm only trying to broad brush the apparently big part of the Republican party that relies on liars & hypocrites to get their dirty work done. I apologize to any Republicans who aren't liars & hypocrites.

 no it won't :). Democrats who abuse women get defended or ignored. About the only counterexample I can think of offhand is Anthony Weiner, and that's because there was photographic evidence of him hitting on girls who were underage.

Perhaps vet there prospective employees? They did not accomplish there due diligence. Can you at least aknowledge that much ?

Democrats have come so far from Teddy Kennedy haven't they? Oh wait, Bill Clinton....no...Keith Ellison....no, wait, I had something for this...

Fraken had to give up his seat, and many Dems told the guy to give it up. It was extensively covered on MSNBC and CNN. The press will ALWAYS report on a politician involved in a sex scandal, regardless of political lean. Sex sells, more viewers more advertising $. Your claim is BS.

I hope all here who are Republicans accept your apology. I am not a Republican. Never have been.

I can think of a couple more. Al Franken, Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey... I'm sure there are others.

But you are correct in that the MSM (and the Left) protects it's favorites, just as Hollywood protected Weinstein for so many years.

I certainly can. You're right; they didn't do their due diligence. I can't imagine why any Congressional committee wouldn't check references and resumes and call former employers. While employers, by law, cannot provide any more information than dates of employment, they can answer this one question used to get around FERPA: "Would you rehire this individual?"

Dems defended that guy for a long time, but you are right. After no less than 8 women came forward, and he got caught in the non-denial-denial game, eventually they caved on him.

Oh? Shall we list the Democrats against whom accusations are, for some reason, not newsworthy, or worthy of their being taken down? Keith Ellison is a bit in the news, but I hear no national furor. Ted Kennedy was the Lion Of The Senate. Crimes by Democrats are always treated as unfortunate affairs if anything, not indicative of scandal. Crimes of Republicans? Not so much.

Huh. That must come as shocking news to Al Franken, Ruben Kihuen, John Conyers, etc...

Think the GOP cares? They don't give a ****.They making that quite clear.

For decades the Republicans and their allies in the Con media and Religious Right preached to the country about family values and what awful Christians Liberals were.

Now it seems the Republicans are less 'family value' Christian and much more hypocritical than the Dems. Who would have thought many of these Republicans are are bigger sexual perverts then the Hollywood crowd they love to preach about and criticize..

Who would have guessed. lol

Your original theory was wrong, you admit it, then double down. There is no helping some.

All questions they will have to answer. An emoyee at a fast food outlet is better vetted.

On the contrary - unlike you, my rule is not absolute.

Should Ellison and Booker resign?

Thid is another example of how "metoo" has been weaponized.

If this press adviser did commit sexual misconduct and there is factual evidence to back it up, I have no issue with his resignation and the proper and legal consequences applied.

Could you and those in the liberal leaning spectrum do the same with Kavanaugh?
