Looks like folks from all political ideologies are enjoying electric cars in the US. In 15 to 20 years, gasoline cars will go the direction of the flip-top phone.

Politics be damned: Electric cars aren't really so polarizing

In these days when the political dividing lines can seem insurmountable, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents have something in common: Regardless of their political affiliation, a majority say that they view electric vehicles positively.

A new survey from Climate Nexus has found that 77 percent—a strong majority—views EVs positively. That’s true across demographic groups, and includes 84 percent of Democrats, 75 percent of Independents, and 70 percent of Republicans.

They will enjoy them even more when they realize all the benefits.

1. Can be charged from solar Photovoltaics. Imagine - no gasoline bills and no increase in electricity bills. Even if one chooses not to use PVs, he will realize a large reduction in fuel/power savings. Depending on the area of the country, this can be 1/3 or 1/2 as much.
2. The power and drive train is warranteed for 8 years or 100,000 miles. That includes the batteries. Most owners are now easily getting 150,000-200,000 miles on their original batteries. One Volt owner (PHEV) boasts over 600,000 miles on his original batteries.
3. Maintenance Costs of Electric Vehicles are much lower. Consider - no pistons, cylinders or oil in the motor. No transmission. No exhaust system. Regenerative braking not only efficiently captures braking energy, but results in very little braking.
4. Incredible driveability. 0-60 in a few seconds. If you prefer, it's easy to maneuver ahead of traffic with that kind of acceleration.
5. Quiet as a sleeping kitten.

One thing is for sure, you will continue to hear negative articles about EVs. The Koch Brothers and the Heartland Institute are investing Billions into misinformation campaigns. That's why it's so important that one listen to current owners of EVs. Over 95% are satisfied!!!

I should also mention that, in 2019, there is still a $7500 federal tax rebate on electric vehicles. Many states also have tax rebates and other incentives. Colorado has a $5000 state tax rebate.

Except those truck drivers who are always blocking charging stations.

I guess a truck driver can block just about anything he desires - including gas stations. BTW, most EV charging is done at home. That's where the real savings are. It's foolish to charge at a charging station, unless you must.

~ Tesla is a nice looking car. Not so sure about all electric vehicles in the near future. We shall see ...

As the link stated, most Conservatives are in agreement with your statement. You should not object to a non-combustion engine. However, much of the targeting of the Heartland Institute is to Conservatives. So I do believe that you are more exposed to their propaganda. If that's the case, I am glad that you can see through it.

Well that's the truth.

Three words: Range, range, range. From my home in San Diego I can't make it to Las Vegas on a single charge; my ten-year old beater can make it there and back on one tank.

When EV's complete on a par with fuel vehicles, get back to me.

~ Is VOLT all electric or hybrid ? I think I see a few of those around here .

It's a hybrid, but not a conventional hybrid. It's a plug-in hybrid. It only has about a 50-mile range on electricity, but can run on gas indefinitely after that.

If you have a Level 3 charger, your time has come. An electric car gives you about 300 miles of range. This charger - another 60. That'll get you there. You'll have to charge up in Vegas, for the return trip. A Level 2 charge, which are easier to find will fully recharge your car in 2 hours. You can stop and have a nice lunch. Better yet, take a tour bus for your extended trips, and you can have a party along the way.

DC Fast Chargers, also known as Level 3 or CHAdeMO charging stations, can offer 60 to 100 miles of range for your electric car in just 20 minutes of charging.

All electric for the first 40-55 miles depending on model year and conditions, then gas plus electric.
GM will now be transitioning to battery electric models instead.
The Volt was a transitional model to get their feet wet.

GM isn't going to be producing the Volt anymore. Tesla is also shutting down all brick and mortar dealerships and selling vehicles only online. It's easy to see that all electric or hybrids will be the cars of the future and more money will be put into the development of longer lasting batteries that take less time to charge. There's going to be more charging stations popping up alongside gasoline stations all over the country.

Closer, but no sale.

As a former drag racer, I would really enjoy the hell out of the instant torque.

I believe the range would be hurt in the winter (we get in the negatives here).

And, long term, they are really going to hurt tax reciepts. States will have to get creative. Illinois is talking of passing a $1,000 registration fee every year to make up for the lack of gas tax. For gas cars, it's just $101.

You shouldn’t. many conservatives have knee jerk hate because anything environmentally friendly is an enemy.

Yeah, unfortunately using gas taxes as a model for road maintenance isn’t going to work forever. These kinds of fees are probably going to become the norm.

Range is effected by accessories - predominantly heat and A/C. But it's in the order of 5-10% less. My state of Colorado adds $50 onto the car registration. I'm fine with that, as you are correct. EVs don't pay gas tax. I think $1000 is quite excessive, especially considering that wear and tear on the roads is predominantly Semis and other very heavy vehicles.

Somebody else mentioned "Range". I just think that the benefits (see first post) outweigh the one in 5000 trips that are over 300 miles, and would simply require a 2-hour break for a recharge.

"Sport Mode" rocks on EVs!!!

That is great, was one of my biggest concerns about electric cars

2. The power and drive train is warranteed for 8 years or 100,000 miles. That includes the batteries. Most owners are now easily getting 150,000-200,000 miles on their original batteries. One Volt owner (PHEV) boasts over 600,000 miles on his original batteries.
I love the Volt for many reasons, one being able to keep going, past charge. The warranty is tops

If that means it won't break down on my, that's fine with me. The rest is Chinese, for all I care

4. Incredible driveability. 0-60 in a few seconds. If you prefer, it's easy to maneuver ahead of traffic with that kind of acceleration.
That will show'm

5. Quiet as a sleeping kitten.
That might be a problem if one doesn't look out for pedestrians. Lots of distracted people out there.

I am excited about this. It takes time before most can afford those vehicles, but eventually it will be so quiet, we might be able to hear the birds again.

I should also mention that, in 2019, there is still a $7500 federal tax rebate on electric vehicles. Many states also have tax rebates and other incentives. Colorado has a $5000 state tax rebate.

I think you should pay for my vehicles too.

The result will be a per-mile tax to make up for the lost fuel tax.
