McCain Irrelevant, 'He's Dying Anyway,' White House Official Reportedly Says

A day after Sen. John McCain urged his Senate colleagues to reject Gina Haspel as CIA director because she had overseen torture of detainees, a White House official reportedly mocked the ailing Arizona Republican, saying his opinion "doesn't matter" because "he's dying anyway."

The Hill first reported the comment later confirmed by The Associated Press. Both cited unnamed individuals in the room when the disparaging remark was made by Kelly Sadler, a special assistant to the president.

How's that for class?

Note: I really thought there would already be a thread on this one, but couldn't find it if there is

“Stay classy!”

Is anyone really surprised by this? This is just the latest in an almost endless string of low-class comments and tactics from this administration.

Classless. Utterly despicable. But also a window into the collective soul of the average Trump acolyte. The fact that that woman, Kelley Sadler, the former editorial page editor for the right wing Washington Times, still has a job this morning says it all. In fact the White House hasn't even issued an apology, much less a reprimand.

If there is one "good" thing that has come from the Trump era, it would have to be the formal ripping-away of the thinly veiled motivations and sentiments of the mainstream conservative movement in this country.

The ascendancy of a man like Trump has emboldened a lot of people in this country.

Politically blunt, but true. I suppose he should have sugar coated it. But hey, more pogy bait for the TDS crew.

Exhibit B: window into the collective soul of the average Trump acolyte.

It is not classy, but it is also not a big deal. It was said in private, with an expectation that it would not be made public. Every one says things in private that are lacking in class at times. It should also be noted that the White House did in fact handle this exactly right, a public statement and a private apology for Sadler.

It’s not a big deal because it was said in private? Guess we will just ignore the never ending ***** grabbing saga then.

I would say that things said in private matter more. It’s how we act when no one is watching that really defines who we are. You are right that we all slip from time to time but I think here it is indicative of a larger problem.

No class. As I understand it, Sadler has subsequently apologized.

Nevertheless, a window into the dark hearts within Trumps White House.

Both you and Nevertrumpgop "nailed" it. The comment is very indicative of the low class attitude of the White House. p

Quite frankly, I've never seen any former military POW and dean of the US Senate publicly attacked like this. Disgusting.

And the White House probably still doesn't quite comprehend why Commander Bone-Spurs was not invited to Senator McCain's funeral.

Incorrect. It is a VERY big deal. And a sad day for the WH.

I'm in complete agreement with this. There is "gallows humor," but this isn't gallows humor. It's a direct insight into who these people are.

From Joe Biden: "People have wondered when decency would hit rock bottom with this administration. It happened yesterday,” Biden, a close friend of the Arizona Senator, said in a statement on Friday. “John McCain is a genuine hero – a man of valor whose sacrifices for his country are immeasurable. As he fights for is life, he deserves better – so much better.”

From Donald Trump: "Here, hold my beer!"

Stolen from Twitter....

How can anyone be surprised? The low-brow gutter-level of this WH is showcased daily.

I'll probably always see McCain as one of the Old School Republicans.

Back when they were rational in their decisions- when they were true ladies and gentlemen- when they seemed to have a moral conscience- when they actually wanted to know the truth about things!

I don't recognize many Old School Republicans anymore!

Just an observation of mine!

Who was this "White House Official"?

The one whose name you could have found in the link in the OP.

Here are some other interesting facts about her:

1. Sadler Was an Opinion Writer for The Washington Times & Sends Out Anti Illegal Immigration Emails
2. Sadler Has Worked for President Trump for a Year

Ah ****, I didn't see your thread before I started mine. My bad.

Back to the thread. Did you ever think you'd live so long to see such an ignorant and classless group of braying beasts in the White House?

Never, not in this lifetime. What a travesty.

My feelings on John McCain is that he betrayed the middle class and small businesses by not voting to kill Obamacare. I believe that vote was treasonous. As bad as Obama was, I now believe McCain would have been much worse if he were voted president.

McCain threw away his legacy by giving the middle finger to the many that suffered under Obamacare. Many jobs were lost, many businesses suffered under that health care policy.

Remember, he voted against the Graham-Cassidy repeal bill. Lindsey Graham is his best friend!

McCain sure fooled his constituents. Everything he said about fighting Obamacare was a lie. IMO it is nearly impossible to repair your reputation after that.
