I jut read an article that said that although a majority of Americans are against the wall and don't think it will do anything to solve the problems with our border, Trump supporters still want the wall. The wall is estimated to cost 25 billion dollars and if past experience is any example, it will probably cost more. Do you think that if we spend that money it will be worth it and the wall will end the problems we have on our southern borders with illegal immigration?

The wall is like universal background checks. It's not going to stop anything. It's supporters think it will help, detractors see it as a waste of time and money for minimum results.

That's a good comparison actually. I like it.

There are probably some stretches along the border where a wall would help. Construction is temporary jobs, I'd rather see more money go to permanent border jobs.

It won't stop the 2/3 of incoming illegals who have visas when they arrive, it won't stop most of the ones who sneak through checkpoints and places we've already fenced, it won't fix our broken immigration and work visa systems, and it won't even limit the cartels' smuggling ability by much, given that the majority of their smuggling is done over water.

In the early days of this task force - and we've been around for 26 years - we saw much higher movement using non-commercial aircraft to fly the drugs northwards.

"[Now] well over 95% of the drugs are moving on the water via container ships, non-commercial vessels, pleasure boats, sail boats, fishing boats. They also have fast boats which try to outrun our law enforcement assets.

Would be much cheaper to simply go after people that hire or rent to illegal immigrants. If they have no job or place to stay then they will leave and dramatically decrease the number attempting to come. The only real issue would be the citizen by birth on American soil, we would need to change that as well. I think the best solution would be to reform the social safety net and open the borders but we will likely never see anything like that.

I think a wall will reduce the problem, but I think other measures, such as on-the-spot court hearings for those who claim they seek asylum would be more effective. Our system currently nabs the illegal and when he claims he seeks asylum, they set a court date to hear his case. He never shows up and that just allows one more illegal into our country. A better choice would be to set up courts right at the border and have them operating 24/7 to hear the cases and render verdicts immediately. No catch and release necessary.

I like the idea of building the wall but they have the location wrong; build a wall around Washington DC, place guard towers every few hundred feet, turn DC into a prison, and don't let any of these assholes out for at least 120 years ..........
