Preface:
I saw a video called "Kanye West Ignites a Debate About Racism." I don't care about West or what he says; aside from Noah's remarks, I don't know what he said, and his remarks aren't what I intend to here discuss. I only mention West because his name is in the rubric video's title.

Main Post:
Periodically, one encounters someone who were their brain on pinhead, it would roll around like a BB on a 6-lane highway. The people described in Roy Wood, Jr's segment are such people.

Below is pictured Louie Jones, Jr.'s home in New Richmond, Ohio.

Watch the video linked in the preface for a few more/more detailed images. One of the dolls is in blackface, not merely brown, and eating watermelon.

Jones, says he "ain't racial." The guy's three pickles shy of a quart, which may explain why he doesn't realize his little "vignette" is an homage to racism.

His neighbor, Tammy, is no better, "They went up a few of them at one time and then a couple more were added, but the flags have always flown, that's for our country." (Source)

It's a "rebel flag. It's not racist," he said. "It's for the war that we won." Seriously!?!?! Somebody tell that man that the the flag corresponding to the country that won that war was this one:

36-star-us-flag.jpg

USA flag, 1861

I think they both belong in remedial 5th grade U.S. history. The American flag is "for our country." What? The Southern Cross and Confederate Navy Jack (not sure which the man is flying) are flags flown by citizens and combatants of a different country, the self-declared country of the Confederate States of America, which fought a war with the United States of America and lost. The foolishness continues....You can read it for yourself.

I'm sure that everyone understands overt displays of racism -- written or oral statements of race-based animus. Maybe Tammy and Louie aren't overt racists. Next are implicitly overt manifestations of racism. That's what Jones' display is, though it's not the sole way to express implied racist notions.

What's astounding about Jones isn't that he's a racist, but that, taking him at his word, he doesn't know it. His display plethorically lionizes derogations of black people. How does he not know that? How does he elide the
symbolically representational meaning of imagery, which is no new concept.
Symbols change, but the meanings attached to them remain, and though sometimes new meanings get added, the old meanings don't die, at least not in but a couple hundred years. People's and cultures' memories aren't that short.

While I'm dismayed by Louie and Tammy's ignorance, I'm willing to say "it is what it is." They're also free to express their racism. There's nothing for me to say in that regard. The guy's obviously not intellectuals, so I don't expect they'd acknowledge even more subtle forms of racism. No. What astounds me is their disingenuousness and cravenness. I mean really, not to exculpate Klansmen and Neo Nazis, but they know they're racists, for cryin' out loud.

Supplement to the OP:

Sure as I've provided the above. I won't pretend that I spend much or any time trying to figure out whether I'm a racist or not a racist. I spend my time trying to do is give folks neither more nor less than their due and be considerate toward them. I try to do that on an individual and group/class level.

Ok, so you found some examples of utter stupidity. It is nothing new. I only wish we would report the daily occurrences of human kindness rather than trying to stir the flames.

You spent a lot of time on this, so I assume it is important to you.

Would you please compare and contrast the following terms: Racist and Bigot.

I'm not trying to fan flames. I'm expressing my astonishment that it's possible to be that stupid in 2018. I did, after all, write:

How does he not know that [the imagery he's displaying is racist]? How does he elide the symbolically representational meaning of imagery, which is no new concept.

People like you is why racism never dies.

What's your idea of "a lot of time?" My idea of it certainly isn't the seven minutes or so it took to grab the video link, copy and paste three bookmarks I had stored on my PC, an image from a news article, a few quotes from the same article, and compose some prose of my own. It's about 500 words, which is about the length of a typical English composition in-class writing assignment for which, back in the 11th grade, we were given ten minutes to complete. I'm almost 60, and I'm better at doing it now than I was then, and I was quite good at it then....It's really not that hard to toss together 500 words of thought....One encounters a stimulus, thinks about it, puts one's thoughts on the page.

Would you please compare and contrast the following terms: Racist and Bigot.
Really? Is this some sort test? If it is, you should grow up because I'm well the point of being tested. If you're asking me because you want to understand the difference, I have only to say "Google is your friend." If, on the other hand, you have on-topic thoughts thoughts you care to share about the ideas I expressed in the OP, by all means share them. If you need clarification about something specific I wrote in the OP, ask for it.

I'm asking because your post demonstrates that you don't know the difference and I was hoping that when you did some research on the definitions, you would recognize the difference. Using the wrong word to describe bad behavior is bad form.

Traditional racism in America is all but dead.

Go to any White Supremacist rally and you will see reporters covering the event outnumbering the participants.

The hysteria about racism is kept alive by Leftist wanting to politically profit from it. But in doing so they are dividing and damaging America worse than any Klansman could have ever dreamed.

A racist knows they are a racist. A bigot may not realize some of the things they do are perceived as racist by others. It's also possible to commit a bigoted or racist act without any ill will or malice intended.

People like you is why racism never dies.

Classic.

OP points out blatant racism. AustraliAnus blames him for the continuance of racism.

The worst kind of racism is the kind that is displayed by those that don't know they're being racist, and then tell you they're not racist when you point out that what they're doing, is racist.

It turns into racism once the bigotedness (is that a word?) is pointed out and the behavior continues.

I'm sure there are racists who know they are racist and don't care. I'm sure there are others who have ingrained bias but are not overt racists. I'm also sure that this applies to more than white people. It is a component of the human condition. People gravitate to those most like themselves. That's just how it is. We can legislate away a lot of it in a legal sense. Changing human nature is something else.

Exactly. Its not only whites. But liberals are weak and uneducated that they only blame white people for being racist. Go to an arab country lets see how they like white ppl there.

I should buy this liberals plane tickets and fly them out of America so they can go ahead and face the harsh reality of how truly these ****hole countries look like, and how racist and bigots this other people are.

Racism and Sexism are a lot like alcoholism. The people who can't acknowledge that it affects them are generally the ones who are the most susceptible to it. I would argue that all people are to a certain degree racist and sexist, but most of us are in recovery while others are still in denial.

So much of what you see today is what I call "Racial Amplification." It's not an overt hate, but it's an automatic sense of superiority. It's a belief that African Americans can exist, they can be around, they can be companions, and even co-workers so long as they do what they're told, they're agreeable, friendly and subordinate. But the instance one challenges them or their thoughts or is put in a position of power over them they see that as something inherently wrong with the world, and they need to be put back in their place.

Racists view African Americans in much the same way they view their dogs. As long as they're loyal, obedient, and cuddly it's fine. They make great companions and they will treat them like they're a part of the family, but the second they disobey or growl at you it is your job as the owner to beat the animal into submission.

To the racist, electing a black man President isn't a whole lot different than electing a Dog President.

Racists of the past didn't think they were racist either. They just thought black people had their place, and that place was always subordinate to their own.

You really have to know white folks from rural mountainous or southern states to understand.
