I previously reported that on occasion, the forum stops allowing any typing. At the time it was suggested 'maybe that's during a maintenance period late at night and things happen'.

It's still happened occasionally at other times; it just happened at 10AM PST. Refreshing doesn't help. It required using a new browser window.

Ummmm, not saying I am 100% sure, but I am at least 75% sure this may actually be a hardware problem on your end.

This isn't an issue with the forum itself. This is most likely a browser issue. I would suspect it's an issue with your cache since opening a new window resolved the issue.

I don't know. You might be right; but it's unclear what cache issue would come up simply using the forum, that would prevent all typing. Whether you're right or not, there's probably little to do, just letting the forum know it happens (it's never happen on any other forum).

What kind of hardware problem are you thinking of? I doubt that. If it was hardware, why would a different browser window work? It's rare enough - though it's happened several times - there's no good way to evaluate it.

Well, hardware and software.
I notice that some older models with minimal RAM memory sometimes choke up when typing.
It's a cycle, they choke up, then the typing resumes, then they choke up again, lather rinse repeat over and over again.

But I could be wrong ;)

This is on a 16GB i7-4790 system; you're right it could happen on older systems.

My graphics card fried, and I would suspect that, except that when it was working fine, an RX 580, this still happened.

Hmmmm, sounds like your machine shouldn't be experiencing issues but I've witnessed the same thing happening on an old laptop that only had 4GB RAM running Win7. It would choke about once a minute while the paging file caught up...I think.

But you might have other issues, like a process or program that is acting like a CPU hog.

I don't think I do; CPU utilization is below 40%. I suspect it's a browser quirk, a forum quirk, or both.
