Anybody have one? My husband has one, and swears it's the slowest laptop he has ever had the misfortune of owning.

Any alienware owners have this problem?

It's unlikely to be the laptop.

When does the computer become sluggish?

When does the computer become sluggish?

The minute he opens it up. It's sluggish when he's online. It's sluggish when he opens a program. It's not any particular thing that he does - it's generally slow all the way around. He flashed it and upgraded the BIOS and it's a little better, but it's still unbelievably sluggish. It's supposed to be one of the fastest gaming computers out there. He said he couldn't even imagine playing a game on it.

It could be any number of things.

1)Bad RAM.
2)Multiple running services fighting for the CPU.
3)Two anti-virus or anti-spyware running at the same time. You should only have ONE, so make sure Windows Defender is off if you use a different one.
4)Overheating problems. This is common on gaming laptops.

Alienware is overpriced. You're buying the name and the fancy cases and little else.

Probably overloaded with malware, bloatware and background processes. Tell him to do a factory reset, usually a disk comes with it that'll reformat the HDD and reinstall Windows.

Whenever I use anyone else's computer and it runs like crap I do a bit of spring cleaning, leave them thinking they have a new computer. Too many desktop icons and icons on the taskbar running is usually a dead giveaway.

My son in law has one for gaming and hates it. I remember it wasn't cheap either.

i have one...fairly new

when i got it, i deleted most of the crap it came with

i think it has 8 or 9 icons on my desktop

i use that machine strictly for gaming....and i love it

great wifi, and graphics....and i use it to play a number of mmorpg type games

Yeah I bought it first, and hated it. Absolutely hated it. I gave it to him, and he hates it, too. I will tell him what you guys said. He is used to working on computers, so he probably tried all this already, but I'll let him know.

Disks to reformat have not been included in new computer purchases for years. At least the last 3 laptops purchased by my family have not had a restore disk. But thanks on the other.

Tell him to quit browsing the porn sites and picking up viruses. :2razz:

Yeah, recent laptops seem to have them on a separate partition of the hard drive.

Yeah, the OEM provides a partition with an image of a clean install of windows.

Don't you hate when that happens? :comp:

Yeah I told him what Winchester said, and he said, "I NEVER go to porn sites on my laptop." He paused a moment, then said, "I reserve that for my iPad only."
