Inserting gifs

I'm having a hard time understanding something about this. There are two ways to do this just like a static pic. You either upload a file from your computer or you link to one on another site. The first option, the file size of 19k I think it is... I mean WOW that is tiny. Can't get many cool animated gifs in under that size. The second option, where you link to it from another website and that website is hosting the image and not the forum... there's STILL a file size limit. That I don't understand.

Is there something I'm missing here or is there a work around to posting animated gifs?

Did you uncheck that little box at the bottom?
