Are there already Likes given. If there are, the Like icon appears above as well as below. It is the bottom one that gives the Like. The one above only denotes the Likes line.

I was clicking the like button below. I checked out names of those who'd already given likes....my name doesn't appear among them.
 
Did nobody tell you? The entire forum has been moved to the Basement.

That was happening to me, when my mouse was sending multiple impulses, when I clicked once. Could it be that?

Wait for a minute after you click the button. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to register.

True. I can't tell you how many likes I've given, then undone, then given again until the forum itself has to tell me, "geez, man, give it 5 seconds or so".
