When the Apple told me I had to have the same Apple ID for iCloud as with the iMac, my iPhone had to be reconfigured. The result was that all text messages and contact list were lost. My email connection was lost. I made the attempts to reconnect the email to Google but to no avail.

I was asked to put in phone number(s) and name. Google says no account found.

Next step was to give them my alternate email address which is valid. But nothing showed up on my alternate email address. I tried 3 times but no email from Google.

I went into their help screen. The responses I got were of no value, just a canned responses.

Would anyone out there have an idea why these are happening and what I can do about it?

At least the good part is that I have no problem getting email from the iMac.

A what? You dont "have to have" the same Apple ID for iCloud as with your iMac, but you do need the same if you want your stuff on your iPhone to be on your iMac.

But that should not mean that you should loose your contact list..nor text messages (unless they are all that iMessage crap and not really text messages) if you change your iCloud account....

You have Gmail correct? Then why it should disappear if you change iCloud makes no sense.

You need to put in MYNAME@gmail.com plus your password and it should set it up automatically.. just did it like yesterday with a client. MYNAME is of course what your account is called, and not myname :) Point is, a Google account is not a phone number. You can have a phone number linked to your google email to make it easier to recover or get alerts if people are trying to hack you. I recommend doing that.. even with your Apple account.

Err you mean receiving emails on the iMac correct?
