Major League Baseball season start overshadowed by Covid-19

MLB is basically three exclusive leagues now, so they could have used 3 bubbles. And there are a great many complexes in this country with multiple fields.

It's a moot point now though.

Millions of people home now because of the pandemic, millions unemployed and at home. So what does the MLB do? All week long they schedule almost all their games as night games.. Today, a Saturday, and every single game is a night game..

Idiots.. They deserve the worst sometimes.. They ask for it.

NBA is smart enough to schedule their games all during the day.

This won't make things better with athletes who already know their careers are limited.

Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez out for 2020 season due to COVID-related heart issue..

he Boston Red Sox have ruled out the return of their top starting pitcher for the 2020 season.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom said that left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will not play this year after developing a heart issue following his bout with COVID-19.

The 27-year-old left-hander tested positive for the coronavirus before the start of summer camp, but was cleared and returned to workouts on July 18.

He hasn’t had another positive coronavirus test, but said an MRI revealed a condition called myocarditis, that the team’s medical staff felt was serious enough to shut him down for at least a week.

snip....

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle that is usually due to a viral infection. The inflammation can lead to arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy or heart failure.

Rodriguez's doctors told him that 10-20% of people who have had COVID-19 also have been diagnosed with myocarditis.

Rodriguez has been restricted from baseball activities since July 23.

Lorenzo Cain (Brewers) opted out of the season. I think there will be more players deciding not to play every day and can't say I blame them. Season will have to be cancelled.

Let's just crown the Yankees as the champs now.

No new positives from the Marlins today. A surprise and a relief.

Those millions of unemployed are busy during the night?

It’s smart so that everyone can watch

There's more competition on TV at night..

Also Kids.. They want to get more kids to watch the games. They want to bring younger viewers in.. Having some day games on TV and the radio is the perfect opportunity to do it..

But more and more it's looking like it's not going to matter.

Competition with what, streaming that can be watched at any time?

Baseball is normally on in the summer during the day when kids are out of school, if they haven’t been drawn into baseball normally it’s not going to be a big difference now

Except for Sundays baseball hasn't been on during the day in the summer in decades. Sure, they have a game on here and there for 'get away' games, or games for summer camp kids..

But for the most part day time baseball has been dead for years. Right now, IMO would be a good time to load up on day games while everyone is home. NBA is doing it, NHL is doing it.. Some of that is because of the 'bubble', but still, IMO baseball is missing out on an opportunity. My God, this past Saturday there wasn't a single day game.

these guys are still doing the high five, spitting, hugging...

You could be like Yoenis Céspedes and just simply stop showing up to work and not tell your employer. Maybe that says more about the Mets franchise.

Breaking news. The entire Mets team has opted out for the season. MLB officials were confused when no one from the Mets team showed up to the ballpark. They eventually found a napkin on the floor stating we are opting out.
