Cleveland Indians to 'determine the best path forward' for team name

That was the guys name, Blackhawk? Paul Brown also started the Cincinnati Bengals club.

he was a famous chief and war leader in the War of 1812. Impresssive dude. The original owner of the Chicago NHL team was a member of a ww1 army unit The Black Hawk Division which was named after the man.

Well, I grew up within broadcast distance of the city of Cleveland. Indians games. Those and Browns games could be seen every weeknight and every weekend during their respective seasons. The Indians name and logo were mentioned in many many movies, not the least of which were the two Major League movies, with Charlie Sheen and a slew of famous people, including Kirstie Alley. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the Indians are one one of the most famous franchises in baseball history..

FYI, I also like the New England Patriots minuteman center logo.

In Canada we stopped calling them "Indians" and started calling them "first nations" some decades ago. We have much to atone for and that was but a start.

FYI, I like that logo too, just not as much. ;)

Well, I have nothing to "atone" for. Neither I nor my family have ever harmed an American Indian, nor have we ever owned slaves. I'll be judged for my own crimes, not anybody else's, we fought a war for that in this part of the continent.

Interesting. You enjoy the benefits of a nation whose foundation is built upon genocide and slavery. And I totally understand that the crimes of your nation are not yours, nor should your nation have to pay for its sins of the past or even feel bad about it. In fact I bet it irritates the hell out of you when others pause to consider the issue in context of American societal development over the past 300 years or so.

What's behind me now is not important.

If that's the way you want it you can carry England's baggage as well as your own. I'm a free moral agent, feel free to nail yourself to your own cross.

I can totally understand your lack of understanding or appreciation of the fact you stand on the shoulders of those that came before. i thought that was a patriotic given, but apparently its all about me and now and screw history. Even odder patriotic position.

What have you done to atone for these sins? Other than parade around here banging the drum of moral sanctimony.

Well, apart from advocating socially, voting for a candidate that supports reconciliation, regular donating money to first nation shelters, mentoring my first nations surrogate son, not much. Of course I support the negotiations my government is having with first nations with a view of resolving the clustermuck once and for all.

the sins of the fathers and all that.

So considering all that you have is the product of conquest, theft and genocide, you havent done squat.

All I have? That is one of the all star stupidest posts of the year.

squat?
Can you make the intellectual leap to grasp that where you came from has a lot to do with where you are and what you do today has a lot to do with where you will be tomorrow? But perhaps this simple first step to awareness and recognition is beyond your reach.

Indians is pejorative...a name Columbus came up with when the idiot thought he reached an island in the Indian ocean instead of a chain of them in the Atlantic. I'd name them the Americans.

Now a days that is a pejorative too. It is a name used to describe a people lousy with COVID-19
