Stadium sponsor FedEx asks Redskins to change nickname

I went to a casino last year and talked to the native Americans. All of them I spoke with find the team name offensive. Just be renaming the team we will give this poor historically marginalized group some peace of mind.

Oh yeah? How so?

Because much like this statue incident. It's only going to open other doors, for people to demand changes, or even attempt to force them. For teams that don't touch on the boundary of race.

Sorry, but real Americans do not submit to the insane demands of the anti-American fascist left. The more the name offends progressive freaks, the better. And there isn't a damn thing you can do about it because the Supreme Court has ruled against your fascism.

This has nothing to do with any court cases. This is about money. And money talks.

So...you're afraid of change. Honestly, I'm not even gonna pick on your for this, lots of people are.

But maybe your fear of change is not a good enough reason to prevent it.

The way I read this, eliminating some offensive logos (for some, if not for me) will lead to more eliminating of offensive logos (maybe one I care more about in the future). I guess I'm not that scared...

I would feel guilty owning any old washington memorabilia. When I think of that ugly logo I think of the trail of tears.

It should be banned and burned like Hitler paraphernalia.

While I think the wisdom of changing the name is the right thing to do I must admit I like the logo. The logo isn't the problem IMO. It's the name.

Might as well make the ticket"scalpers" change their name too.

Dan Snyder will not only change the team name, but he will also apologize for his past foolish statements.

The Washington team name is greatly offensive. Native Americans feel very deeply about it. Go to any Indian reservations and ask the people there.

Indian Reservations are offended about everything. It rationalizes their substance abuse to be put upon.

Just wondering when the owners of "Cracker Barrel" and "White Castle" are going to change the names of thier establishments? ;)

So inventing a perceived offense and then using that as a form of coercion to force others to do what you want.

Is what you're simply going to call change?

Yes, then we can see every team in not only 3A titles get the same treatment. But lower rung JV, or even just high school teams as well.

Hell, the last few polls I've even seen concerning the name of that specific team. Showed that Native Americans either didn't care for the name, or were proud of it being the teams name. By a good majority of the poll taken.

I haven't seen any recent polls, but the last one I remember stated something akin to 90% of native Americans, the name Washington Redskins didn't bother them. So this name change thing seems to be driven by white liberals who know more than those involved who should be offended and offended at what. But it's that way with all elitist.

I don't care one way or the other. A sports teams nickname is really irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. The change if it does takes place doesn't provide one new job, improve conditions in the country, it actually does nothing at all except make some feel good for a few minutes, then it's back to the real world, to reality where no one is better off after the name change than prior to the name change or even the removal of a statue for that matter. Nothing changes.

But the white liberal instigators can say, look, we bettered your life, the Washington Redskins are no longer the Redskins. In reality, life hasn't changed one iota, for the better or for the worse. Except make a very few feel real good for a few minutes.

Yeah...even if that's all this was, I'd call that change. I'll save you the time, you can't debate that, by dictionary definition that would be change.

But, of course, that's not an accurate description of what's happening. That's just the distorted perception of a guy scared of change. ;) It would take more than that to get the widespread support, or at least widespread indifference, that making this change would require. It's been talked about for years. That it's coming to a head now simply indicates that a big enough segment of society is ready for it to come to a head. It was always going to happen, that's what you didn't realize back when these complaints were first made. You can't stop change.

Calling them Indians is offensive. Columbus thought he was in Asia, and though Native Americans were Indians.

The Stanford Cardinals got rid of their offensive team name and logo, so should the Cleveland Indians.

Protip: Before being offended by the use of a term, don't use the term yourself.

You don't find the term "redskins" in reference to Native Americans to be racist or offensive?

What I find offensive has absolutely nothing to do with what the First Amendment protects. The reason the First Amendment exists is to specifically protect language we consider offensive and with which we disagree. If we all agreed with the language, then there would be no need to protect it.

Have you done that? NO, of course you havent

The team is named after a racial slur....long overdue

Yep, "Redskins" is a horrible name.

"Braves" is OK, IMO. As are Chiefs, Seminoles, Fighting Illini, Blackhawks, and Utes. "Indians" probably not so much.

It alienates a lot of people and offensive too many yet people still defend it....

How about change the name to the Washington Alcoholics?

What does this have to do with the 1st amendment? This is the free market at work.
