Would you participate? Would you spectate if allowed?

No and No.

I love sports. But I don't love sports to death. TV will do just fine until there is a vaccine available.

Let's hope Gov. Abbott doesn't make the same mistake they made in South Korea. Using sex dolls in place of a live audience, even though they are "social distancing," is beyond moronic. :doh

Korean Soccer Club Apologizes for Putting Sex Dolls in Seats

Of course I would attend. I'm not in a state of panic like the idiots wearing masks. However, I have taken to wearing a firearm at all times due to the mask-wearing crazies.

Was that a Lone Ranger reference?

The mask is out of respect for other people.

Texas Governor Abbott announced a greatly expanded reopening of businesses and events, story below. a portion of that announcement has to do with sports at all levels. The short version is that practice can resume 31 May and games on 15 June. This runs from peewee leagues to professional sports. Crowd rules are less clear.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says daycares can open immediately, bars can reopen Friday at 25%, summer school June 1

I live in Texas and no, I wouldn't participate or go to a game for the immediate future.

I'll also stay away from the gym for a while, and I'm a guy who usually works out 6 days a week.

Most Trump supporters have proven they don't have a lot of respect for other people.
That's why talk radio is promoting mask use, right?

I won't, but being in NY it's going to be awhile before there will be spectators in the stands.

That said what the sport leagues are going to do is the bigger question

Lets say baseball starts up in July.... Things go OK for awhile, then 1 of the teams has 12-15 players test positive.. Then what?? Just ban that team and forfeit their games for 2 weeks, or ban them for the rest of the year and forfeit all those games, or shut everything down for the 2 week waiting period? Or shut everything down until next year?

Gonna be interesting .....

it doesn't seem like a great idea to pack stadiums full of people right now.

I agree. No Fans Allowed until a vaccine is distributed.

I'd like to see a vaccine / a serious increase in testing / other treatment options. I'm a scientist, and while I can't be specific, I can say that this bug is a top priority for a lot of us.

Wouldn't it be killed if they played but allowed dogs and cats in the arena as audience members? That would be wild!

I was 15 years old during the 1969 Hong Kong Flu that killed 100,000+ Americans and between 1 and 4 million world-wide. I remember the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination in January, the lunar landing in July, and Woodstock in August. I was also playing both football and basketball in high school, and I never missed a single game.

Nobody panicked and completely lost their minds in 1969, like they have in 2020. We didn't intentionally destroy our economy in our panic, because there was no panic 51 years ago.

I'm far too old to be playing sports these days, but I would have no problem sitting in a packed stadium watching a decent college football game, like between the Huskers and the Sooners.

They also discovered a vaccine quickly for that outbreak so its tough to compare.

The vaccine could take years to produce and get out to the public. Also, there are other virus mutations that the vaccine would not destroy.

I personally can’t wait to attend a major sporting event.

We can pack protests full of people, why not stadiums?

You're correct about doing it right now. I think the idea about no fans in the stadium when football season starts needs to be reconsidered. If there are no significant spikes resulting from the protests, especially during a time of increasing cases I think it would bode well for fall sports. Add in the fact that stadiums can limit the amount of people and at least attempt to create social distancing measures. Hopefully testing will significantly be ramped up by that time.

Obviously a second wave woud put an end to this.

Mass protests during a highly contagious pandemic are a poor idea. Packing people together in any way is also a poor idea.

If the numbers are down significantly in August and September I can see some fans being allowed to attend games. I'm talking maybe 15-20 thousand compared to 70 thousand. I don't know that all stadiums would be able to accomodate. Pittsburgh has an older stadium and smaller walkways than some of the newer bigger stadiums. The big question would be if the stadiums have the infrastructure in place to handle ordering food from your phone.

It's starting to look like the spread of Covid outdoors is not as scary as we once thought. I guarantee all sport leagues are awaiting what happens in the aftermath of the protests.

The NBA and Hockey are indoors and closer together. It's not gonna happen for them this year. Baseball is bad timing for fans as well.

i've learned that people are going to do whatever the **** that they want to do. i hope that my family doesn't get it due to the general idiocy.

I agree!

I still think they will make a push for fans. A significant percentage of their game day revenue goes towards the salary cap. If at that time Cruises, churches, bars etc are allowed to operate then why can't people go to a game? . Many college towns will be wrecked if there are no fans. I have a feeling money will override safety.

I wouldn't go to a game. I'm shocked that bars are allowed to be open right now. I do think there will be fans.

The NBA and NHL will have play offs in isolation. It works, sort of. What about baseball? It appears that Commissioner Manfred thinks it will happen. He is proposing a 48 games season with expanded play offs.

The sticking point is that the games would not be played with fans in the stands, which is a big hit on the revenues, much more than basketball, for example. The MLBPA is insisting on full pay, regardless of the revenue or lack of it, which may be the ultimate issue.
Rob Manfred: 'We're going to play baseball in 2020, 100 percent.'
