"having gone through this countless times before"?

Curious as to what you are meaning. You've been in 'countless NASCAR crashes before?' Eh?

They are citing NASCAR. It was a pretty rough wreck. I suspected getting hit after he was in the air would have been the end of him. That said, it can still be awhile before they know for sure. Those kinds of impacts can do a lot of **** that sneaks up on them.

No, I've just been around motorsport culture for a looong time, and know that joking in a time like this is very disrespectful to fans. Looks like you're looking for any excuse to defend an insensitive joke that you refuse to retract for the stupidest of reasons.

Should we all have made jokes about California when Bryant's helicopter went down? It's the same thing.

I can't believe this has to be explained to you.
If you want to join Parrish in the virtue signaling parade, that's up to you two. You both are getting offended over a minor joke.

    Let. It. Go.

You're the person that made an insensitive joke that just keeps digging and digging, not us.

Watching this crash, I see a lot of energy being dissipated over an extended period of time. That's a good thing. These cars are designed to keep the drivers safe.

Here's to hoping the engineering did its job.
Any of us who saw the fatal Earnhardt crash thought it was just a routine crash at first. But 50+ g acceleration proved lethal. If his car had more gently bounced off the wall, he might have made it.

    No, no, no.

I mean, that as a race fan that lived through era's where fatalities were common, I know the signs to look for when a driver is in either bad shape, or when there's been a fatality.

The ambulance going slowly straight to the hospital, with no word on the drivers condition in secrecy for hours is never a good sign. Then as a fan you get that lump in your throat, because that's how it was for Erwin, Petty, Wheldon, Moore, Senna, Earnhardt, etc.

It's no different than a rabbit punch in boxing.

Too perfect a contact with the wall can be lethal.

    Oh, yeah, I gotch'a now.

Good that the safety systems in the cars have been much improved with research and development (used to be that you could almost punch through an F1 cockpit side back in the 90's! ), and good on the rules committees mandating their use.
