The National Football League has long hoped of putting a team in London. Many expect it to be the Jacksonville Jaguars, who regularly play there. A report Monday says the team could be the Los Angeles Chargers.

Report: NFL considers allowing a Chargers move to London

Do you think NFL fans are ready for a UK based American football franchise?

I was hoping it would end with "allowing a cat to run the field every game" as that really livened up the game at our house last night.

Anyways, on topic, as a fan I wouldn't really care. I think it's just fine to expand the league like that.

I listen to the cat incident on the radio and Kevin Harken from Westwood One did and excellent job calling the play by play of the cat and its antics. Funny stuff. Better than the actual game.

Wow. I wasn't aware of this. So they want to go the way of the other "football" (soccer)?

My brother lives just outside London; He has said that when there is an exhibition game played ( usually by Jacksonville), the event is always packed.

I dont know if its a novelty effect, or if there is a genuine interest in having an NFL team in London....but it does sound interesting.

At this point after a decade of games and now multiple games a year in different stadiums I think its safe to say the appetite is there. The travel of course would be a factor but they can get around it by playing multiple road games in a row. I think it would be a great move and would be very profitable for the NFL.

I'm open minded about an expansion, however a team in Canada makes more sense to me...

At this point though London has proved itself and its just a much much bigger market. Way more money to make in London than Canada.

If you're interested, this poses a massive logistical challenge that will be massively expensive and the NFL is already having issues in that department.

Not to mention the issue with time difference, but give this a look as it does talk about the specific issue of a London based team in the video.

It could still work and be a money maker, by no means am I seeing its entire unfeasible, but it would be a bit of a nightmare logistically and time difference speaking.

True...given the fact that Canada already has the CFL, I think it would have a larger impact and generate a bigger fan base in the UK; English sports fans have already shown themselves to be very loyal to their teams, and avid spectators.....I can see London as a large fan base just to get started.

Plus you have fans from all over Europe that have been flying/driving etc to London to watch the games. It's just such a central location.

Excellent point.

The further away from some foolish American city giving it's residents' money away to build a stadium for billionaires to make more money off them, the better.

I believe a large portion of the fans attending Buffalo games are from southern Ontario. Toronto could perhaps support a NFL team at the expense of Buffalo. No other city in Canada could.

London would be interesting, it has a large sports friendly population, and with only 9-11 games a year the novelty would stick around. It would open up more TV rights money than would a move to Canada. The time zone issue is easy, play late afternoon games in London, and early morning away games, and the TV aspect would be ok

Yeah but we like football with full-size teams on a full-size field.

I remember when the CFL expanded (briefly) into the US and the American teams on offense would send a man deep on every play and hope he takes a defender with him so they could play 11-man football like God intended.

But actually I read that George Hallas liked the Canadian format.

There's a buncha hard-core Seahawks fans in Vancouver too and the 'Hawks have acknowledged them. A couple Seahawks players went up to Haida Gwaii after they won the super bowl and ran some clinics for the youngsters there. No doubt they got some fishing in too, but it was a great gesture.

I was thinking about Vancouver, but I was unsure if they could get the 60 000 people to attend games all the time. So much else to do, and (sterotyping here) I doubt US football holds much interest among ethnic Chinese or South Asian populations in the Vancouver area. Toronto with a regional population of over 6 million should be able to find enough fans to attend games

I doubt NFL would fill the Dome in Vancouver. Not consistently. I'm not sure but I think the MLS Whitecaps draw more than the CFL Lions. Wasn't always that way- when the Dome was first built my brother and I had season's tickets and sell-outs weren't unusual but they don't even open the upper tier for Lions games now.
Toronto would be the best bet for NFL in Canada. The bottom line in Vancouver is it's a hockey town.
