Major League Baseball 2020

I don't believe any year after 2017 was addressed vis a vis the Trashtros. It could mean that MLB didn't investigate any other year besides 2017 or they investigated and found no wrong doing. OR I guess it could mean that they did find wrong doing but considered it outside the scope of the investigation.

I like the idea of congress investigating the whole mess. Subpoena the bitches, including the players.

And yet the Nats got all four of their World Series wins in Houston.

I would find it close to unbelievable that the Astros, and ANY team that knew what the Astros were doing would stop in 2018 and 2019.

This 'scheme worked so well for the Astros in 2017 that they won the WS, then them, and anyone else doing it stopped??? That's totally unbelievable.

It is a great question on why MLB hasn't mentioned 2018 and 2019 concerning the Astros, and only mentioned the Red Sox concerning 2018.. So far..

Congratulation to Jeter and Walker. I'm happy with the HOF voting this year. Schilling, perhaps next year. As far as I'm concerned, Bonds and Clemons, never.

There was one idiot that didn't vote for Derek Jeter to the HOF.

Talk about a complete travesty.

For us old foggies, Jeter not being unanimous was understandable. The thinking until last year was especially among the older BBWA was that Babe Ruth should be the only unanimous selection to the HOF. It surprised me that Rivera was unanimous. Especially when the likes of Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Warren Spawn, Mickey Mantle and others of my youth weren't.

I would rate those players I just mentioned better than Jeter. But times change along with the different era's of baseball. I think it's a good thing to be rid of the idea that only Babe Ruth was the only player that should be unanimous. But apparently, one writer still clings to that old idea. Certainly I can't see anyone not ranking Jeter in the top 10 of all the players on the ballot this year.

Growing up the figures given to get into the HOF was 3,000 hits, 300 wins, 500 or more home runs. Even if a player achieved those figures, it didn't necessarily mean a first ballot entry.

Absolutely. Jeter is definitely a HoF'er. But if players like Seaver and Griffey weren't unanimous then neither should Jeter.

If I'm not mistaken, the only unanimous players were Babe Ruth and Rivera last year.

The Astros, Red Sox, and Patriots were all good teams that may have been helped by gamesmanship but would have won what they won anyway.

Not Babe.. Only Rivera

Joe Dimaggio didn't even make it in the HoF on the 1st ballot. Or the 2nd, or the 3rd... Took him 4 tries.. Amazing, right?

Dimaggio’s time on the ballot is that he didn’t even get in during his second year of eligibility. After getting only 44.3% of the vote when he retired (he received one vote in 1945 while he was in the service) Dimaggio was on 69.4% of the ballots in 1954. It took three years for Joltin’ Joe to be elected to the Hall of Fame.

It was rare back then for someone to get in on their first appearance on the ballot. Ted Williams did it but I think there were only 5 or 6 before him.

The greatest Yankees

1) Ruth
2) Gehrig
3) Mantle
4) DiMaggio
5) Berra
6) Rivera
7) Ford

Then you have from 8 to 12 take your pick Jeter is in that group

How could any knowledgeable baseball fan expect Jeter to be voted in unanimously. Rivera was voted in unanimously because
by consensus of experts he is considered the best closer ever. Jeter isn't even one of the top 5 SS of all time.

That's nonsense.

Jeter is one of the top 5 ss's to ever play the game. Easily better than Ozzie Smith, Barry Larkin, and Alan Trammell just to name a view.

He's easily top 4 if you disqualify Alex Rodriguez due to steroids.

You could add Reggie Jackson for his time as a Yankee. That would make Jeter number 9. Times change as do era's in baseball. If Rivera hadn't been voted in unanimously last year, I doubt we'd be having this conversation.

None of these players were voted in unanimously & your suggesting Jeter should have, you no very little

The Mount Rushmore of Catchers
Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, Mickey Cochrane, Mike Piazza

The Mount Rushmore of First Basemen
Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Johnny Mize, Hank Geenberg

The Mount Rushmore of Second Basemen
Rogers Hornsby, Eddie Collins, Nap Lajoie, Jackie Robinson

The Mount Rushmore of Third Basemen
George Brett, Eddie Mathews, Mike Schmidt, Pie Traynor

The Mount Rushmore of Shortstops
A-Rod, Arky Vaughan, Honus Wagner, Cal Ripken,

The Mount Rushmore of Left Fielders
Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, Stan Musial, Rickey Henderson

The Mount Rushmore of Center Fielders
Ty Cobb, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays

The Mount Rushmore of Right Fielders
Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Mel Ott,

The Mount Rushmore of Baseball Players
Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, Lefty Gove

I would highly disagree with that list. I would put Jeter ahead of Ripken and Vaughan.

A-Rod should be disqualified since he wont be going into the HOF anytime soon.

You better check out the career of Arky Vaughan. I have Vaughan 2nd all time at SS so does Bill James reknowned
baseball historian. No SS ever, not even Wagner put together as great a 3 season run 1934-1936.
Highest single season OPS & OBP (On base percentage) ever as a SS. Highest BA ever 1935 by an NL SS .385.
Played in cavernous Forbes Field and in 1935 broke the Pirates home run record with 19. In this day & age
he'd hit 30 a year guaranteed. Amazingly in 35 he hit 19 HR's & Struckout only 18 times,

His career was shortened in 1943 by an incident that would lead to the end of Vaughan's career. An argument with manager Leo Durocher
Vaughan threatened to leave the team, handing his uniform to Durocher for disposal. Stayed the remainder of
the season, then left the team, retiring to his ranch.
He went on to sit out the next three years as Durocher. remained manager.

I posted in BB Fever:

1) Wagner
2) Vaughan
3) A-Rod because of the roads
4) Ripken
5) Banks

I think Jeter is a Hall of Fame player but I also feel after the top 3 that so dominated. #4 is closer to the 15th best SS of all time
than he is to #3 Arod. IMO there is hardly a difference one can make between #4 & #15. Put Jeter anywhere between 4 & 15,
that makes sense. But to beef that he wasn't selected unanimously doesn't make sense to me.

A-rod should not be listed at all.

Dbacks pick up Starling Marte from Pittsburgh for a couple of prospects. Nice pick up.
