Major League Baseball 2020

While I'm excited about Cole I simply HATE long term contracts for pitchers. It's incredibly rare for a pitcher to have top tier success over more than a handful of years.

The last 4 years will be very bad but if Cole can be like Max Scherzer who has given the Nationals 5 good years, it will be worth it. Yankees are on dynasty watch now.

Apparently JA Happ is trade bait. I'm not too upset about that for the right offer.
Does anyone know anything about German's situation?

White Sox Rotation — Giolito, Keuchel, Lopez, G. Gonzalez, Cease — Kopech in June or so, Rodon after the ASB — strong catching with Grandal, McCann, and Collins — some talk of trading McCann — hope not;

Infield of Moncada, Anderson, Madrigal, and Abreu — Outfield of Mazara, Jimenez, Garcia and Robert — 40-man roster is fairly deep — relievers are better than some think — Reinsdorf has finally let Hahn spend some $$$

Hyun-Jin Ryu to the Blue Jays; after they signed Chase Anderson and Tanner Roark. They’re also hoping Matt Shoemaker comes back from injury.

It looks like they are going to trade Frazier and Andujar for Josh Hader.

Although that is overpaying for a relief pitcher, Frazier and Andujar are not championship caliber position players. Below average defensive players, weak OBP, do not draw a lot of walks.

I thought Frazier was already gone!
Yankees let Betances and Adams go maybe they think Hader would fill in a hole despite some unfortunate outings.

Suspended 81-games, similar to Roberto Osuna.

Better to half him for the second half fresh than him pitching a full season meeting an innings limit and forcing him to pitch in the pen imo.

The Yankees starting pitching is good however I have a feeling Paxton, Tanaka, and Severino all won't stay healthy the entire season. They will need depth. Jordan Montgomery is intriguing.

Why do they always make us look bad in Boston/Foxborough? We don't do it any more than anyone else.

Report: 2018 World Series Champion Red Sox Used Video Replay Room to Steal Signs

En route to winning the World Series in 2018, the Boston Red Sox reportedly used their replay room to decode the opposition's signs.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic, three anonymous people who were part of the Red Sox organization in 2018 said some players would go to the replay room during games to gain information regarding their opponents' signs.

I see the Yankees going on a decade long domination of the AL East..................... reminiscent of the Patriots

Report: 2018 World Series Champion Red Sox Used Video Replay Room to Steal Signs | Bleacher Report | Latest News, Videos and Highlights

As time goes on it's going to come out that virtually every team, if not every team was using 'technology' to steal signs. I'm sure this was an open secret throughout the league, no way 1 team is not going to cheat while knowing other teams are cheating. Not much different than the steroid era when everyone did it because they knew everyone else was doing it.

The difference will be that no one cared, or will care if San Diego was stealing signs because they have stunk for years, while they will care about the Astros, Sox, Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, Mets, etc..etc..etc..

Houston Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch have been suspended for one year after an MLB investigation found the team used technology to cheat during its World Series-winning 2017 season, it was announced Monday.

Additionally, MLB will fine the Astros $5 million and take away their first- and second-round draft picks in the 2020 and 2021 drafts.

MLB said in its statement that if Luhnow or Hinch "engage in any future material violations" of MLB rules, they will be placed on the league's permanently ineligible list.

No players were disciplined by MLB in the Astros' investigation. While Mets manager Carlos Beltran was part of it, he was a player at the time and thus was not suspended.

Discipline for Red Sox manager Alex Cora is coming and is going to be harsh, sources tell ESPN.

Cora is identified throughout MLB's report as ringleader with Beltran. Commissioner Rob Manfred said that discipline for Cora will be announced at the completion of its investigation into the Red Sox's alleged use of the video replay room to steal signs during the 2018 season.

Houston Astros' Jeff Luhnow, AJ Hinch suspended 1 year

The Astros and Red Sox should be stripped of their WS titles. Alex Cora should be banned for 2 years. It is good the cheaters finally get caught!

I disagree. I don't think most teams did this.

To the extent of the Astros did, maybe not.. To the extent of what the Red Sox did with the replay monitors, IMO absolutely every team did it. They'd be crazy not to. BUT I doubt THIS time MLB will come down hard on the teams that used the monitors, but with the severe penalties just handed down to the Astros I'm sure all teams were warned if there's even a hint of using the replay monitors this coming season more severe penalties will be handed out.

Cora though will get hammered big time...2 years suspension at least.... Being he's involved in both organizations.

We shall see.

Funny you mention this, just this minute I heard the Yankees and Dodgers have been mentioned in using monitors/stealing signs.

I wonder whether some teams may have thought just using replay monitors wasn't against the rules.

Some baseball insiders are saying Rob Manfred is coming down on the Astros AND will come down HARD on Cora because in 2017 MLB got a whiff that cheating was going on so he specifically warned them/him and all the teams in 2018 not to use technology, including replay monitors to steal signs. And he's PO'ed that this warning was ignored by the Astros, Cora in Boston, and now maybe other teams.

If true, they all knew. And now might feel the Commish's wrath.

Given the amount of player and coach movement among teams, it's hard to believe too many people thought this was a secret that could be kept.

Agreed. But if many thought they/other teams are all doing it, then maybe no one will blab or care. Again, kind of like the steroids. Bonds started doing them because he knew McGuire and Sosa were, and I'm sure others thought the same as Bonds.

Get an edge, and think everyone else is doing it too? That's a big temptation for any player.

Funny listening to sports radio here in NY and hearing Yankees fans scream how the Astros(2017) and the Bosox(earlier 2000's titles with Ortiz and Manny(steroids)) and 2018(sign stealing) should be stripped of their WS titles.

Of course when asked about Arod in 2009, and Clemens and the MANY other steroid cheater on Yankees in the late 1990's and early 2000's teams they all of sudden don't care about those cheaters.
