EPL/Champions League/other 2019/2020 season thread

I'm not saying the BBC is feeling the absence of live sport, but Pete might be pleased to know that I'm watching a re-run of the Euro 92 final between Netherlands and Denmark! Denmark are one nil up after 15 minutes...
Semis, and Schmeichel saves Van Bastens penalty.

Next up the Germans.... And then I can't remember what happened after that game... 24 hours of blurry memories.

Job. Done. Happy days.

Thanks Jurgen. Thanks Lads.

YNWA.

Liverpool Champions.

Finally.

I can die in peace.

Been a LOOOOONG time coming for you guys - congrats. When people started talking about cancelling the season because of the virus, I thought "uh-oh... there'll be riots!"

United look like they could be a contender next season. The trio of Greenwood, Rashford and Martial is pretty dangerous

Don't worry, the Glazers will **** it up.

Woh, woh, woh Higgins, Woh.

Easy there.

They’ve had an ok run since the break but I see Ollie going after the season concludes, they’ll find another disaster of a manager that they won’t support properly, spend another cool 200 Mil on players that won’t be utilized correctly because the recruiting and the manager vision aren’t talking to each other properly to the point where Rashford will end up as Goalkeeper.

I jest somewhat, but it’ll be around there somewhere :2razz:

I think if Ole secures them top 4 he will keep his job. I believe they are still in the FA Cup and Europa as well.

Can’t see it happening, the real issue is he’s now had quite a bit of ups and downs giving that he’s lasted longer than maybe he should have, but are the glazers and the board gonna back him with hundreds of millions to become title challengers again, I doubt it.

But we’ll see, I could be wrong.

With the Man City judgement, all bets are off....except for Man U. Why? Its the only thing that is keeping the Glazer family afloat and has been for years. They are only willing to spend just what is needed to maintain a steady income to cover their massive losses in the US. They bought Man U for the name not the trophies. Sure they will spend 200 or 400 million on players but their competitors will spend 1 billion.

All other clubs can now spend as much as they want as long as their owners are willing to dump billions into a deep hole like at Man City and possibly Newcastle if that ever goes through.

Of course that can all change when Boris finally figures out how to handle those evil dirty immigrants......since almost all top footballers are non British.

almost all? You'll find that the prem is currently littered with British talent.

61% are non British. Add in the non English and you are even worse off.

As for you talent...there are some but they often have a hard time getting a place at a young age and then are wasted away. Only reason for example that the Chealski young English players got a chance was a transfer ban. Tottenhams young English players are doomed since they have Mourinho the moron at the helm. Man U has one or two youngsters, but there is a tendency in England (and in most countries) to go overboard on "big talents". I remember a load of English talent over the years that never got a chance... I remember people talking Jesse Lingard up and now..

The English squad right now is one of the best in Europe. They were joint favourites in the Euros for a good reason. Our youth teams have won multiple titles including 2 world cups and the average age of the senior squad is like 25. Kane, Sterling, Sancho and Rashford is probably the best attacking 4 on the international scene right now.

English say that every 2 years and it always fails. /wave Iceland. As for winning at youth level..it almost never translates to the first time sadly and this goes for pretty much every national side. A few players if you are lucky will make it, but most will drift off. It is even worse for the English, since the talent will at best be part of a mid table to relegation type EPL squad, but most likely in the Championship. Only the lucky few get to play for a top team and most of them sit on the bench to fill quotas.

You might have some above average attacking talent, but your defensive issues (central defence) and lack of quality midfield is a problem. Also Sancho does not play much even when fit and is very over hyped by the English media because he is a talent that grew up abroad (football wise). Last time I saw him play he looked fat. Hope I am wrong though. As for Kane and Sterling. They have yet to prove themselves on the big stag and no matter how good you are as a striker or winger, if the midfield is ****, then well... Rashford is meh, never fancied him. Over hyped Man U crap as far as I am concerned which his record at Man U proves. Yea yea he has scored a lot of goals this season.. for the first time. He is however young and can still prove me wrong.

And for the record I aint optimistic about my own country despite some good talent playing in Holland... The thing is, all the big teams are in a generational shift at the moment... Spain, Italy, Germany, England and even Brazil up to a point. So all bets are off.

Sancho doesn't play much? He started 32 games in the league this year, scored 17 goals. Started 34 last year and was named in the team of the year, the kid is legit

Out of the FA Cup now.

I don’t know, if I were the Glaziers, I would get Potch in, give him 4 years and a decent sized war chest, get a new sporting director and sort out recruitment, get the club up to snuff and just ****ing sell the thing because for them, it’s becoming more of a headache and they’re universally reviled by the fans, but Not entirely undeservingly.

They can't. Man U is the Glaziers credit card and it is holding up their failed real estate empire. Been like this for years. Its Bank rolling the whole family.

And saddled all its debt sadly.

Weird for a Liverpool fan but I want a Man U comeback so the rivalry can be like the old days, but as much as Football is more corporate and business now then it’s ever been, when you get people like Ed Woodward saying stuff like “our on pitch performance won’t affect the commercial side of things” the delusion is massive.

It was a pretty amazing turnaround to get into the champions league but the fact is, without silverware, their brand is beginning to fade and it’s amazing when you see mismanagement of resources as serious as Man U with one of the highest wage bills in the league with not much to show for it over the past few years.

Debt is not a problem since Man U is a money printing machine and that won't change any time soon. Even Liverpool, who had not won anything for decades was a relative money machine when compared to Man City and Chelaski. Now, Liverpool has a new printing press in the basement.

This is the difference between a legacy club like Man U and Liverpool vs no history or legacy clubs like Chelaski and Man City.
