Congratulations to Team Matteo Berrettini! He faces Nadal tomorrow in a Semi-final.

Asked afterward how he’d managed to outlast a practically inextinguishable Gael Monfils in their U.S. Open quarterfinal match Wednesday evening, Matteo Berrettini had no answer. “I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t know. Actually, right now, I don’t remember any points, just the match point.”

He could be forgiven for that. The match—mostly a weird, sweaty, exhilarating blur—ended with an appropriately weird, sweaty and exhilarating fifth set tiebreak after nearly four hours and five match points.

Even in losing 3 straight sets to Nadal, 5'7" Diego Schwartzman showed incredible spunk!

Now on to the ladies -

Take note of Newcomer Bianca Andreescu! I predict she meets Serena Williams in the Final.

Serena Williams plays Elina Svitolina in tonight's Semi-final.

Grigor is Bulgarian: Belgium's best player-David Goffin lost the Cincinnati final to Medvedev, just as Dimitrov lost to Medvedev in the Semis tonight. Medvedev's a good guy, the NY crowd are on his ass over him snatching a towel away from a ball kid. Nadal looked far sharper tonight then he did against 5-7 pit bull Diego Schwartzman.

I'd say 60-40 Serena wins. 55-45 for Rafa. Medvedev is very fast, has a lethal serve and hits very hard. He also has loads of confidence. Rafa crushed him the first time they played but the next week, Medvedev took out Djokavic in Cincinnati and won-Rafa was a no show

My bad on Dimitrov. Thanks for the correction and the projections. I agree; Serena and Nadal for the wins!

Gooooooooooo Bianca! She is a spunky tiger on the court but she will have her hands full with Serena. I think Serena will win because she is on fire right now... I just hope Bianca can find a way to win. I hope it will be a competitive final.

As for the men, I think it should be a good one, too. Bad boy Medvedev vs Mr Popular Nadal... should be fun!

Bianca vs Belinda was a wonderful display of no fear power hitting vs crafty changes of angles and changes of pace. Sort of like the old days of Martina Hingis vs. say Lindsay Davenport. This time BA's game prevailed over Bencic's.

Not much separating both of them. I just think that Bianca is a bit stronger on the mental side.
