Day 10 begins! Already out: Osaka, Djokovic and Federer.

Serena Williams looks strong! She advanced to the semi-final to play Svitolina tomorrow. Yesterday, Medvedev the Villain found a way to overcome injury obstacles.

For the first time in his career, Belgian player Dimitrov beat Federer.

Nadal faces Schartzman today.

Time to tune in to the 2019 U.S. Tennis Open!

Osaka is out? I missed that.
Loved the Coco/Bobos match, dvr'd...great tennis!

Also watched Osaka/Coco match, dvr'd...was rooting for both.

Congratulations to Team Matteo Berrettini! He faces Nadal tomorrow in a Semi-final.

Asked afterward how he’d managed to outlast a practically inextinguishable Gael Monfils in their U.S. Open quarterfinal match Wednesday evening, Matteo Berrettini had no answer. “I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t know. Actually, right now, I don’t remember any points, just the match point.”

He could be forgiven for that. The match—mostly a weird, sweaty, exhilarating blur—ended with an appropriately weird, sweaty and exhilarating fifth set tiebreak after nearly four hours and five match points.

Delightfully Messy Quarterfinal Nearly Kills Matteo Berrettini, Gael Monfils, Everyone Watching

Even in losing 3 straight sets to Nadal, 5'7" Diego Schwartzman showed incredible spunk!

Now on to the ladies -

Take note of Newcomer Bianca Andreescu! I predict she meets Serena Williams in the Final.

Serena Williams plays Elina Svitolina in tonight's Semi-final.

Singles Finals-

Women: Serena Williams v. Bianca Andreescu

Men: Rafael Nadal v. Daniil Medvedev

Grigor is Bulgarian: Belgium's best player-David Goffin lost the Cincinnati final to Medvedev, just as Dimitrov lost to Medvedev in the Semis tonight. Medvedev's a good guy, the NY crowd are on his ass over him snatching a towel away from a ball kid. Nadal looked far sharper tonight then he did against 5-7 pit bull Diego Schwartzman.

I'd say 60-40 Serena wins. 55-45 for Rafa. Medvedev is very fast, has a lethal serve and hits very hard. He also has loads of confidence. Rafa crushed him the first time they played but the next week, Medvedev took out Djokavic in Cincinnati and won-Rafa was a no show

My bad on Dimitrov. Thanks for the correction and the projections. I agree; Serena and Nadal for the wins!

Gooooooooooo Bianca! She is a spunky tiger on the court but she will have her hands full with Serena. I think Serena will win because she is on fire right now... I just hope Bianca can find a way to win. I hope it will be a competitive final.

As for the men, I think it should be a good one, too. Bad boy Medvedev vs Mr Popular Nadal... should be fun!

Bianca vs Belinda was a wonderful display of no fear power hitting vs crafty changes of angles and changes of pace. Sort of like the old days of Martina Hingis vs. say Lindsay Davenport. This time BA's game prevailed over Bencic's.

Not much separating both of them. I just think that Bianca is a bit stronger on the mental side.

In a picture of Bianca on the court it looked like her arms were very large. I thought perhaps as big as Serena's. Then I saw a press conference of them together. Serena is still very muscular quite a bit bigger than Bianca.

Pictures are sometimes deceiving.

Yeah I agree. she has no fear. She sort of reminds me of last year's breakout power hitter=Aryna Sabalenka. I hope she has a better sophomore year (though Sabalenka has turned into one of the big doubles stars after winning Indian Wells, Miami ad is now in the finals of the US open against a lower seeded but very tough team of Ash Barty and Vika Azarenka)

I want to see the Russian best the Spaniard. We got to start seeing some promise from this new blood. Can't always be Djokovic, Fed, Rafa...

Anyone who can take down Serena, is tops in my book.

Bianca apears to be having a Jana Novotna moment.

All of Canada must be ecstatic now. Great win after it looked like she might lock up

Please give Serena a standing ovation, then bow to the new Champ!

Yeah I thought she might do what Novotna did a couple decades ago. Serena's serve sucked today, and that really was the difference.

I think Serena's serve sucked because she knew she had to step it up against one of the best returners in the game. I didn't see all of Serena's matches but she never really tried to go over 110, let alone 115-120 like she did today. Bianca was ultra impressive especially when the fans were so against her. She's amazing and I hope she stays sound enough to have a great career. In true Canadian fashion, Bianca apologized for winning. That made me giggle.

Yes, the commentators noted that she was missing because she was getting clocked on her second serve and some of the first serves=serves she won points with constantly against Wang, McNally, and others-Bianca was punishing. I love how she gave her parents so much credit-which is pretty much a given but still nice.

On the one hand I am sorry she did not get on the same level in wins as Margaret Court but the better player won and that is the only thing that really matters during a match. Maybe Serena will get there but it will get harder and harder for her to win grand slam tournaments because she has to be perfect 100% of the time and if she is not, well, nowadays there are young tennis players who are able to defeat her, where in the past a 95% perfect Serena was enough to be every single player out on the court (except sometimes her sister). Times are changing in women's tennis and the new generation is winning grand slams that before were won by one of the Williams sisters.

I think it is a good thing that there is loads of competition because a super dominant force in one sport can seriously work against the sport.

A super dominant force transcends the sport and, in that way, keeps it alive in mainstream America.

yeah its hard to tell who will rise. Last year-Sabalenka was the new hot thing-she sort of leveled off this year, though she has had a pretty good year in doubles-winning the "sunshine double" and now in the finals of the US Open. Coco Gauf has some serious speed, and a couple younger Americans of Russian heritage-Kenin and Anisimova have touches of brilliance but they have some serious downside too. some of the other ladies who won majors, seemed to fade after winning-Muguruza has wonderful racket skills, but seems to have faded, Karolina Pliskova is a bit slow and the other ladies are starting to read her serve better and Halep does't seem to be quite as quick. Osaka probably has the most tools of the younger group that has actually won big titles-I don't see Ash Barty being #1 much more if at all.

Maybe in team sports, but this is tennis. In tennis and cycling for example it was terrible for one player/cyclist to have a strangle hold on the sport.

The same goes with Soccer in the international world cup scene. Just think if only Brazil, Germany or Spain would ever win. That is no fun whatsoever.

Now on the Dutch national soccer scene I do not have an issue with a certain dominant force ;)
