NBA - Summer 2019 Off-season

Yes, Pelicans got 15 years of contention for one disgruntled, often injured big man in an era where runners and shooters are far more valuable than trees. Just look at how quickly the Warriors fell apart after losing their two great shooting fast guys, while never missing Cousins during his injuries at all.

IMO, with old LeBron and relatively immobile Davis, the Lakers just got a lot slower in a game that is speeding up.

Pelicans are adding three players - Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, and Brandon Ingram that can't shoot. Now all of a sudden they are guaranteed to contend for 15 years?

All of a sudden you and Lavar Ball are on the same wavelength now?

You keep preaching teams need shooters to win. The Raptors were not a shooting team. The Hornets will not be a shooting team.

But did he win any of those times?? He won 2 with Wade and Bosh and he won 1 with Irving and Love. Did LeBron win any others I missed?

blah blah blah. Jordan needed Pippen 6 times. Stop trying to devalue the king. He owns your Raptors.

Shooters are a dime a dozen...which is why it was odd that the Lakers failed to acquire one.

On that we agree. LeBron beat up the Raptors so often, it put Derozen on Prozac.

Um the Lakers still have Kyle Kuzma who averaged 18 ppg last year.

He will feast next year.

I predict he will be traded to a bad team, that team releases him and he ends up on the Lakers to join his friends.

He's not on an expiring contract. Question is will he accept a buyout.

Let’s put it this way—he whooped all over the Raptors.

He did - before the Raptors got Leonard - now, we won't know, but I'd say not so much. My point remains valid - LeBron wins nothing unless he has other stars to prop him up - and he wins less than 50% of the time he gets to the finals.

blah blah blah - LeBron isn't in the same conversation as Jordan, no matter how much you try to pump him up. The Jordan Bulls were built from the draft and grew into a championship dynasty. LeBron has to try to jump into a winning situation like in Miami or buy a winning situation by finding other stars to keep him from losing. LeBron is a great player, no heart - quits all the time when he doesn't get his way - not even close to Jordan.

LeBron can’t beat Leonard, not anymore. That’s a given.

Jordan did bring in Rodman. Very strange but great asset.

LOL. I guess Shaq was immobile as well. I wonder how Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade were able to carry the "immobile" Shaq to win championships.

Newsflash: Anthony Davis is a monster. He's basically a more athletic version of Tim Duncan, do you remember him? The big man that won 5 rings.

You do realize Davis can shoot and hit free throws? He's virtually unstoppable. Basically twice the player Pascal Siakam or Draymond Green are.

He’s hurt a lot. And LeBron is old now. We’ll have to see if they can hold it together for a season.

This from the guy who said the Warriors would take the NBA Finals in five games. Sorry, but your credibility is on probation.

Evidence of "The King's" decline

James is slowly changing how he plays offense. He is taking more 3s and fewer shots at the rim. He still took a ton of shots (44.6 percent) within 5 feet of the rim last season, but it was below his career high (49.7) in the 2015-16 season, when he was 31 and won an NBA title in his second season back with the Cavs....he’s settling because he either can’t or won’t go to the rim as often. It’s far easier for a player his age to shoot 3s than to put his head down and score through traffic. He’s not shooting all that well, either—33.9 percent from 3 and 66.5 percent from the free throw line. The Lakers need him to be more accurate, because it will only become a more important part of his game as he gets older.

His physical decline is more noticeable on defense. The Lakers tried to hide LeBron as much as possible. The players James defended the most last season were P.J. Tucker (154 possessions), Al-Farouq Aminu (144), and Dante Cunningham (125). Peak LeBron had the ability to be the primary option on offense while also shutting down the best scorer on the opposing team. He can’t do that anymore...

LeBron has already put an incredible number of miles on his body. He is no. 15 in NBA history in career minutes played... It shouldn’t be possible for him to keep up his same level of play for much longer. But it will be fascinating to watch him try.

Gentleman's sweep

Durant will come back and control the series

Oh, and the kicker; this, in the now closed NBA 2019 thread, after the injury:

Bucky said:
No, it looks bad but he probably can come back to game 6. He truly earned his stripes tonight.

Do me a favor.

Look at how many games Anthony Davis has missed compared to Kawhi Leonard, who missed the entire season last year due to a thigh bruise.

Look at how many posts you missed compared to everyone else on the forum, who rarely miss any.

Anyone with a brain would agree a healthy Warriors team would have dominated the Raptors.

I don't really trust Kyrie Irving. He seems to have ghosted his current employer The Celtics.

I am not sure he will elevate the Brooklyn Nets without another star.
