The off-season is off to a bang. While this can't be official for a little more than 2 weeks from now, the first major move is taking place.

Sources -- Lakers reach deal for Pelicans' Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers reached an agreement to acquire three-time All-NBA forward Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans for three players and three first-round draft picks on Saturday, league sources told ESPN.

The Lakers paid a steep price to partner Davis with LeBron James: sending Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and the picks -- including the No. 4 overall selection in Thursday's NBA draft -- to the Pelicans, sources said. The Lakers were able to hold on to forward Kyle Kuzma in the trade, which cannot be finalized until July 6.

What a windfall for NO! I believe that they have the ability to become instant contenders in the West with both the #1 and #4 overall picks in this year's draft, assuming they don't deal the #4 pick for a current star and more draft picks. They will be young, but adding a talent like Zion and another stud from this loaded draft class is going to be huge for them.

Different subject, new topics.

It's very disappointing that KD and Klay are both seriously injured. The hope was to see KD and someone like Kyrie hook up in NYC. Now...

Latest rumors are that Kemba is a Laker target. That actually makes some sense, but landing Kyrie would make more sense. They need a good shooting point guard, and up until last year, Kyrie was one of the best.

Too many question marks:

Zion Williamson is a rookie. He won't dominate day one.

Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball both have been injury prone. Ball lacks aggression, both are highly inconsistent and have on/off motors.

This team will win 36-46 wins next year.

The deal is done. The don, LeBron met with Kawhi already. Start reading the presses. Lakers dynasty is already in motion.

Time to move on. Saying bye is hard sometimes but change is good sometimes.

Injury prone AD and an aging LeBron with maybe Kemba Walker and a series of 2nd tier players? Well, it's better than LeBron and no one.

This will probably get them a decent 4 or slightly above seed in the playoffs. Is it enough to get past Portland or Denver? Sure, if Cleveland LeBron shows up, and if Davis plays 82 games, and if the point guard they need can shoot.

If there's one thing to learn from this past season, it's to expect the unexpected.

They can sign Seth Curry.

Chris Paul may get cut by the Rockets. Chris Paul is the godfather to LeBron's son.

LeBron James is like the Nancy Pelosi of the NBA. He has a lot of connections and relationships throughout the NBA community. Also, don't forget he receives favorable calls from the referees.

He and his entourage are power brokers. What LeBron wants, he will get.

lol...he does whine like a Nancy. :)

For the Pelicans, this could be a Herschel Walker-type haul for a player they were going to lose in a year. They essentially got three top-five lottery picks out of the deal, two of which already have gone through their NBA growing pains. Just the idea of Lonzo Ball throwing lobs to probable No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson is enough to bring fans back to the Smoothie King Center. Ball and Jrue Holiday might already be the best defensive backcourt in the NBA.

The Pelicans might be the rare team to trade a superstar in his prime and not have to rebuild. And this is before we know whether the Pelicans will keep the No. 4 pick or flip it for an established veteran.

Yes, Pelicans got 15 years of contention for one disgruntled, often injured big man in an era where runners and shooters are far more valuable than trees. Just look at how quickly the Warriors fell apart after losing their two great shooting fast guys, while never missing Cousins during his injuries at all.

IMO, with old LeBron and relatively immobile Davis, the Lakers just got a lot slower in a game that is speeding up.

I feel bad for LeBron, poor baby. Needing so many "star" players to join him in order to win while others can do it largely on their own personal talent. Durant gets dissed because he chose to sign with a winning team and yet some give LeBron a pass even though he's never, ever, made a team better all by himself. Wade won a championship without LeBron. Cavs couldn't win with LeBron until they got Love and Irving and couldn't win after Irving left. Eight times to the finals and just 3 championships - Leonard, twice to the finals and twice a winner and finals MVP.

Also feel bad for LeBron because, miracle of miracles, if he does manage to get the Lakers to the finals and win, experts clearly claim it will be a devalued, asterisked, worthless win because of the injuries the Warriors will have next year, causing the superior team to miss out.

Only hope for the Lakers now, thanks to the James cancer, will be to sign free agents since they're out of valuable draft picks until long after LeBron grows tired of being a Laker, which may even be next year. It's not even certain that Davis will be there longer than next year since his agent has made it clear he won't be signing an extension and will be going to free agency next summer.

As it stands right now, the Lakers can only offer 2/3s of a max contract. Even if they were to get rid of every player on their team except for Lebron and AD, they still would come up a bit short of being able to offer Kawhi or Walker a max. Do you really think that someone who, by all reports, doesn't even want to play with Lebron, will not only do that, but take a big pay cut to do so?

The Rockets owe CP3 over $120 million over the next 3 years. He is not getting cut.

Kawhi likes beating up on LeBron too much to join him :)

lol...they went to the finals last year without Irving.

Also, Love was hurt in round one of the first "return" year Lebron took Cleveland to the finals. And, the first ever year Cleveland went to the finals, LeBron literally did it by himself. Just ask Detroit.

But did he win any of those times?? He won 2 with Wade and Bosh and he won 1 with Irving and Love. Did LeBron win any others I missed?

I seem to recall him losing several times.

I seem to recall him losing several times.

Five times, by my count - eight straight finals, three wins. King my ass!!

This last NBA playoffs was very enjoyable to watch and not just because the Raptors won. They were fun because the whiney ass LeBron wasn't top of every story bitching and moaning about something or about what he was going to do next year. The day he retires will be a glorious day for the NBA

Let’s put it this way—he whooped all over the Raptors.
