USA claim biggest ever Womens World Cup win

FC Dallas under-15 boys squad beat the U.S. Women's National Team in a scrimmage - CBSSports.com

They are talented and it’s fun to watch but let’s not get carried away.

What's your point?

Of course, this match against the academy team was very informal and should not be a major cause for alarm. The U.S. surely wasn’t going all out, with the main goal being to get some minutes on the pitch, build chemistry when it comes to moving the ball around, improve defensive shape and get ready for Russia.

Did you just dishonestly disparage the team? For sexism? Classy.

My point is the women’s team have and continue to lose to male academy teams.
I have no issues with the women’s game but to say it’s better than the men’s game in skill and talent is absurd.

This comes up every women’s World Cup. Casual American fans try and convince us all the women’s game is vastly superior purely based on the fact it’s the only form of the game they actually win in. I watch the La Liga, the Bundesliga, the Prem all year as well as the European cups and international football. It’s a huge gulf in class even between one division in the men’s game never mind the Women’s game

I agree with Higgins here. The men's team would crush the woman's team on their worst day.

Exactly, it would be like an NBA team vs a WNBA team.

I do agree about the celebrating... that is not cool. In my post above this one when we were still scoring I told our girls to not celebrate and to just calmly walk back to midfield. After a while the other team started joking about how bad they were and my girls and them start laughing and having a good time chatting, etc... but we still kept scoring, they were that bad.

I didn't realize it was a bad thing to celebrate when you do good things. What is the point of keeping score then?

True in most sports. The boy who played #1 on my son's tennis team, would have beaten any woman in the world in tennis by the time he was 17 (he was a top 15 ITF ranked junior and now one of the top 4 college players in the country). A state championship HS boys basketball team would eat the NCAA women's team up.

But this is all obvious. In some sports-rifle shooting, equestrian and indoor archery, he top women's score about the same as the men. And in table tennis-world class women will beat national level men in many countries. (unlike Tennis or squash)

So what if boys can beat girls... nothing to brag about.

I was responding to your claim that women’s soccer was better than the men’s game and that they were more skilled etc.
Also that’s a high school team beating the World champions.

I did not say that they were more skilled... I said they were almost as skilled.

Also that’s a high school team beating the World champions.

Yeah, I know. My girl's varsity team that won our division lost to a youth grade boys team in a practice game... like I said, more aggressive faster and stronger boys beating girls is nothing to brag about.

Its not a brag, I'm merely correcting you. I enjoy the Women's WC for what it is but to even compare it to the men's game is so far off and honestly a little insulting to the men.

I keep (and kept) having to remind myself to bloody well stop comparing apples and oranges, whenever I watch the women's football.

Every time a pass didn't connect, a ball was lost, a goalie failed miserably or two opposing players couldn't outrun a ball (one to keep it in play, the other to prevent it being kept there) automatically comparisons to male play would arise in me noggin' (and still do).

Once I manage to turn that off I can actually manage to compare the two teams and enjoy the game.

Physiques are different and speed will be different to male teams by simple default. Women goalies not having either the height or the "jump" of a male, it's no wonder they sometimes look kind of lost in the cage, especially the "shorter" Asians. But having said that, I saw some of the best goalie performances in Chile vs. USA, with Chile's Christiane Endler out-performancing many a male goalie that I've seen over time. Without her Chile would have received a far more resounding thrashing than the "mere" 0:3

Germany is currently thrashing S.Africa and big deal. The Banyana Banyanas don't even have a women's league and are all amateurs while the Germans earn a living playing for well-heeled clubs inside and outside of Germany.

So the only field in which to equate the players of the two genders is one of creating conditions where the girls all get paid more.

I'm looking forward to the knockout stages more, the group stages in the Women's WC are dominated with really one sided affairs.

Do you take bets?

I don't gamble at all but if I did, I'd put my money on the US.

But not right now, I'd want to see how they perform against a "real" term first.

 There is nothing to correct me about... I said that they were not as skilled as the men, and you are backing up my claim. Thank you for agreeing with me.

"Women's soccer is ridiculously better than men's soccer. The skill level is just as good"

Tough to say as they haven't really faced anyone.

"Women's soccer is ridiculously better than men's soccer. The skill level is just as good"

First, those are two independent ideas/thoughts.

Their skill level is just as good... you simply do not understand what I meant about skill level. Ball skills, etc. I have a girl on my team that can dribble circles around the guys dribbling abilities... but she gets the ball taken away almost all the time because she is 5'4" and 95lbs and not as aggressive as some guy towering over her pushing her around.

Women's soccer is ridiculously better... to watch, not that they can beat men's teams.

Stop burying yourself further already...

Whether played by men or women, soccer is more about acting than athletics.

Especially on the men's side... the flopping is ridiculous.

Not really in most leagues. Sure if you only watch the World Cup and players like Neymar that would look like the case. But in leagues like the Prem, Bundesliga etc simulation is highly frowned upon by the fans and media.

You’re a casual fan who honestly has no idea what your talking about. If women’s football was better to watch it would show. The men’s game is the most watched game on the planet for a reason. Players like Ronaldo, Messi, Salah can pull off skills at a speed that is just not seen in the women’s game.

I don't like soccer enough to watch smaller leagues... :(
