Brady lost 4 games and the team was fined an unprecedented amount. One million dollars. Deflategate penalty: NFL suspends Brady, fines Pats, takes draft picks | SI.com

I remember Fran Tarkenton, a former diminutive QB of the Vikings raised all kinds of heck about Brady's footballs being deflated (almost used a contraction of the word football with a hilarious result) because Tarkenton had itty bitty hands and played with properly deflated balls. I also heard it wasn't an uncommon practice for some QBs around the league to have equipment managers alter the air pressure of balls to fit the comfort zone of QBs. I mean, if the NFL wants to eradicate this process, have the NFL provide the balls instead of each team.

Yes. I think the Pats were screwed on this one. Why? Probably because of fan outrage. The same amount of fan outrage over the success of the Pats (poor baby fans).

Thanks for the info. Obviously, I misremembered! I also didn't know Tarkenton was still alive!

Tell me, what's the experience of rooting for a winning NFL team?

I used to live in New York City, and I rooted for the hapless Jets.
Then I moved to North Carolina, and I root for the Panthers.
I just finished watching the DVR tape of Browns at Jets, and the pitiful Jets managed to score one meager FG against... the Browns!!! The lowly Browns!!!
My Panthers were good in 2003... then lost to the Patriots in the SuperBowl, by 3 points, during the SpyGate era, so conceivably, if we believe in this, they might have won if not for the Pats' spying... but I'm not even convinced that it was a big deal, or that if it was, it made a difference.
Then my Panthers were good again... then lost to the Broncos.
And now Cam Newton is no longer a dual threat QB, with -3 wards in running game against Tampa Bay, the lowly Tampa Bay. You know that your season is over when you lose at home to Tampa Bay. And apparently Cam can't throw accurately either. So, what will this season bring us? 0-16???

So, I root for two unbelievably bad NFL teams.

Maybe I'll never, ever have the pleasure of seeing one of my teams win the Super Bowl.

What's this feeling that I've never had, and maybe never will, that of rooting for a winning team? Please tell me; what have I been missing?

At least I saw the Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup at one point; the only professional team victory I've ever witnessed when I'm rooting for the winning team. But I don't like ice hockey as much as I like football, so, it's not huge consolation.

:(

My team won the SB in 1985-86, beating the Patriots. It's still a great feeling.

Note: The Pats were the home team in the playoff game in Foxboro in the game of Pats vs. Colts forever known as deflate gate.Deflategate: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com
Deflated game balls can be easier to grip during bad weather such as the rainy conditions Sunday night at Gillette Stadium. <As of this link> the league has made no determination of guilt, but if the Pats are found guilty, they could be fined and/or docked draft picks. 1. ESPN Reported That 11 of the Patriots’ 12 Game Balls Were Underinflated <in the playoff game of Pats vs. Colts>. 3. Each Team Is Responsible for Providing Game Balls.According to the NFL Rule Book, each team is responsible for proving their own game balls two hours before kickoff.

Each team will make 12 primary balls available for testing by the Referee two hours and 15 minutes prior to the starting time of the game to meet League requirements. The home team will also make 12 backup balls available for testing in all stadiums. In addition, the visitors, at their discretion, may bring 12 backup balls to be tested by the Referee for games held in outdoor stadiums. For all games, eight new footballs, sealed in a special box and shipped by the manufacturer to the Referee, will be opened in the officials’ locker room two hours and 15 minutes prior to the starting time of the game. These balls are to be specially marked by the Referee and used exclusively for the kicking game.

It's a great feeling. You can't get thrown off track. I've been lucky. I'm old enough to have rooted for the Celtics during all their championships from the 60s to the 80s. And now the Patriots are equaling those dynastys.

Life is good.

First off, a team that falls apart after 1 injury probably isn't a Super Bowl contender.

Losing your franchise QB, who is also the most important player on the team, is certainly a big problem.

Saints without Drew Brees are in trouble. Same for the Patriots if Brady went down, the Chargers if Rivers went down, or the Seahawks if Russel Wilson went down.

I think the 6 week prediction for Brees is very optimistic. Feel's like he'll be out longer with that type of injury.

I'm not a masochist. I didn't even pick the Jets myself. I used to live in North Carolina when we didn't have a professional football team. Then we moved to New York City. My son was a little boy when we moved to New York, and I took him to a Dick's Sports Goods store and showed him a Jets uniform and a Giants uniform, and told him, "which one you want? We'll root for that team." Unfortunately he picked the green one...

Then several years later we moved back to North Carolina, at which point the Panthers were already here, so there's no choice here; it's the Panthers, the only team here.

So I'm not a masochist, I'm just unlucky.

If my son had picked the Giants, at least we'd have won two Super Bowls.

When your franchise quarterback sucks like Cam Newton currently does, you're in even bigger trouble.

He's a piece of ****. Which makes him a perfect Patriot.

Had the Patriots known about these accusations, they would have never signed him. You act as if the Patriots knew of this before signing him? Really? Well, if that is the case, the Raiders knew about it before trading him and the Steelers certainly knew about this when he was playing in Pittsburgh.

There was no criminal inquiry in these alleged accusations.

It would be a dangerous precedent to start suspending players based on unverified allegations.

...especially if they are New England Patriots.

100% agree with this. These allegations did not surface when AB was in Pittsburgh or Oakland.

But all of a sudden it happens a week after he gets signed with the premier franchise in the sports owned by a friend of a very controversial president.

You mean the team known for cheating like the president is for lying?

Yeah. I get it. It's also why I quit watching football. NFL today is about as suspenseful as watching Hulk Hogan in the 80's and wondering who will win.

I'll take Dak Prescott over Russell Wilson any day of the week, especially on Sunday.

Only an idiot would do that.

For f***'s sake it's a conspiracy!

No offense if you quit watching the NFL why do you come on this thread and constantly steer it back towards the Patriots and Brady?
