Jon Gruden sent all the Raiders scouts home just days before the draft- seems he will handle all the decision making himself.

Also, Kraft's lawyers are trying to block the release of the tape with him having sex at the prostitution ring spa.

This is shaping up to be a good off season so far.

Releasing that tape to the public before the trial would be a violation of Kraft's constitutional rights.

Every citizen in this country deserves a fair trial. The fact that the pd and/or ad's office leaked the video means only one logical conclusion: Drop the case.

Ten million a year will make you bold...

Not his job.

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Jon Gruden has some pointed advice for his new general manager as Mike Mayock approaches his first NFL draft as the Oakland Raiders' general manager, after years as a draft analyst for NFL Network.

Especially with the Raiders holding so much draft capital.

"Don't mess it up, dude," Gruden told Mayock. "I took a lot of slings to get you three first-round picks."

Indeed, Gruden is still taking flak for last fall's trades of All-Pro edge rusher Khalil Mack and Pro Bowl receiver Amari Cooper that netted Oakland first-round picks from the Chicago Bears (No. 24 overall) and Dallas Cowboys (No. 27) to go with their own pick at No. 4.

But consider: The Raiders are just the fourth team in the past 30 years -- the first since the 2001 Rams -- to enter draft day with three first-rounders.

Mess it up? Mayock is embracing the challenge.

"You always have to go back to trusting who you are as an evaluator," said Mayock, who also said his board will be stacked by the end of next week...

Mayock laughed, even as he says he is not worried about his reputation heading into his first draft as a real GM, or about Gruden's playful jab.

"The way I look at this thing from a how-do-people-perceive-me perspective is a lot of people doubted that anybody could come out of the media and go and be a GM for any team," Mayock said. "I know that. I get that.

"But at the end of the day, here's the deal -- if we win, everything will be fine. And if we lose, I'll get fired. And I'm perfectly fine with that."
Gruden's draft advice to Mayock: Don't mess it up

1. You need a great QB to win a SB.

2. Star QBs take up too much of the salary cap making it impossible for teams to build a team around a star QB.

IMO a reasonable solution to this problem is to allow every team to exempt their highest paid player from the salary cap. The only teams this proposal would hurt are owners that are not willing to pay their star QB because they are too cheap.

Kyler Murray will be a good NFL quarterback, but Cardinals should pass

Last Tuesday, nine days before the NFL draft, General Manager Steve Keim told us the Cardinals had yet to decide who they were going to take with the first overall selection.

That’s hard to believe given the franchise’s brain trust has pondered the question since Dec. 30, when the Cardinals lost their 13th and final game of the 2018 season.

Keim might have been blowing smoke, but since no alarms sounded that day at the Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Center, (the DHACTC, I guess), let’s take Keim at his word and view it was a cry for help.

The only things fans and writers of sports like better than playing general manager is second guessing. To change things up, let me do some first-guessing today.

Here is what the Cardinals should do:

Pass on taking Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first pick.
Stick with Josh Rosen at quarterback.
Try to trade down, but stay in the top 10.
If that’s not possible, take Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams or Ohio State pass rusher Nick Bosa with the first overall pick.

Completely agree with Somers article here.

The question I ask myself is, would any of the two projected, Haskins, Murray go in the 1st round last year? Maybe ahead of Jackson, but the other 4? Probably not, which, IMO, means, I agree with the article as well. Stick with Rosen for another year at least, build around him like the Jets, Bills, and Browns are doing. The Cards will know with another year if they made the right choice, and it's not like they're winning this year anyway..

Mayock, like some decent draft prognosticators, are good at picking the order in which players rank in their respective groups, but, to be fair, he isn't any better than anyone else at predicting draft order by team. Knowing this helps a ton as a GM, and some are better than others when modelling this. Most teams boards are set weeks ago as in who they value at each position, what they spend the rest of their time doing is modelling every possible outcome before their turn. Of course, you can't do that for all 7 rounds (There's not enough atoms in the universe to predict that) but good teams with quality staffs can get it close within the first 2 rounds. It's doesn't take any special acumen to pick in the top ten, heck, maybe even the top 20 each year when selecting 1st year starters. After that, it's mostly luck!

A number of talking heads I've listened to say that if Rosen came out this year he would be the number 1 QB on the board ahead of Murray and Haskins.

He has been an ESPN draft expert whose opinion was sought by all teams. He is, in the entertainment world, a guru. We'll see if it translates.

As far as I remember, Mayock never really gave his own opinion. He was speaking and talking chop with all the gms in the NFL and just paraphrasing their thoughts and opinions.

But Mayock is not in control, Gruden is.

I would guess most teams have similar boards. How teams rank players is similar throughout the NFL.

I think what separates the good teams from the bad teams is:

1. Teams like the Patriots trade down a lot. When you trade down you obtain a lot of picks. The draft itself is a crapshoot so when you consistently bring in 7-10 rookies every year instead of 3-4 that's a big advantage.

2. The Patriots pick players that will fit their schemes. It is a big advantage the GM of the Patriots is the coach. I know other teams that view the draft as obtaining "talent." That talent does not always mesh together with what the team wants.

Again it is a big advantage for the Patriots because the gm of the Patriots is the coach. So if the gm likes the player, the coach will too.

Mayock produced mock drafts for ESPN and even for each team. Every team sought his advice and draft board for their team. He was, in the entertainment industry, a guru.

Mayock is in full control of the draft. He was hired for that purpose. It's an experiment to see if ESPN draft expert can translate to GM. The article I cited says so.

LOL.

Anyone can produce a mock draft. It isn't complicated.

And no, not every team sought his advice. Mike Mayock is one of many draft gurus. Have you heard of Mel Kiper Jr? Bucky Brooks?

Definitely, love the Giants draft pick, Daniel Jones. The guy is a hard-nosed kid that won't make a lot of noise, just wants to play.

Broncos drafted a legit downfield TE threat in rnd 1...which means they are convinced none of the 2019 QB draft class are going to be standout performers.

Would have liked to see a better R/L Guard option.

Ya, Joe Flacco loves to throw to his security blankets.

Im not sold on that whole "Flacco is just entering his prime" talk...but I think he is definitely a solid QB and with the ground game they have, the Broncos will give the Chiefs a bit of a run for the division. At some point though they will NEED a true franchise QB.

Id almost like to see Elway offer a 3rd or 4th for Rosen and see if they can make him work out long term.

LOL. You completely forgot about the Chargers.

At this point I am not sure if the Broncos are even better than the Raiders.

They still have a solid defense and a dynamic running game. Receiver corps is solid. New coach...I think that will make a lot of difference. We'll see.

Say good-bye to Mr. Hill.. He'll never play in the NFL again..

Cops called to Tyreek Hill’s home after release of tapes

The revelation of the audio tape caused the Chiefs to quickly ban Hill from any offseason activities, while they gather their thoughts about next steps (which frankly, should be easy).

On the tapes, Hill and Crystal Espinal were discussing the treatment of the 3-year-old boy, who suffered a broken arm.

“He is terrified of you,” Espinal said. “And you say that he respects you, but it’s not respect.”

“He respects me,” Hill replied.

“It’s terrify,” she said, “he’s terrified of you.”

You need to be terrified of me, too, bitch,” Hill said. “That’s why you can’t keep a f–king man.”

The Chiefs were on the verge of giving Hill a gigantic contract extension this offseason before the first word of the treatment of the boy, and it’s now possible that the star receiver has played his last down.

Elway runs the Boncs, so it doesnt matter who the coach is. No real up and coming coach would want to play for an organization like that- Elway has very little patience and his win now attitude doesnt give time for young QBs to develop. I bet Flacco gets one season if he's lucky before Elway boots his butt out in favor of another old veteran.
