Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim hits, kills man walking on I-690: source | syracuse.com

This is just awful. 690 is terrible anyway, always busy and this was after a game, so it was probably even busier. Also reported to have icy spots on the road as well.

I feel terrible for the families of both. I feel terrible for the family who lost their loved-one, and I feel for Boeheim as well. My grandfather hit a man with his car and killed him, and my grandfather never got behind the wheel of a car again.

For those who are wondering, Boeheim isn't a drinker, and his BAC was 0.00.

Also this:

(DA Bill) Fitzpatrick told the station that Boeheim is cooperating with the investigation. According to the DA, no evidence of alcohol or drugs was detected, and Boeheim was traveling at the proper speed for the highway.
Syracuse's Jim Boeheim involved in fatal car accident

So it just sounds like an awful accident. Truly a shame.

Terrible thing for all. Just tragic.

My condolences to the family of the deceased. This truly seems like an unfortunate accident. Boeheim should perhaps seek counseling to help him reconcile this tragedy.

Terrible accident. I drove a wrecker in an earlier life and stopping on a busy highway is very dangerous. People wander around without much awareness. Virginia has only recently made it a law to pull into another lane when passing LEO/Emergency vehicles, where possible.

Man, I know someone who had a similar situation happen to them. Pedestrian walking where they should not have been. It still ate that person up.

The onus is on the drivers to drive as safely as possible. Majority of drivers in this country are not focused on the road. They do not have there hands on the steering wheel or in proper tine clock formation. They are eating, putting on makeup, on the phone, etc...

I live on a country road, 55 MPH speed limit, where 70 is the norm. At least twice a week someone veers into my lane. Often big trucks. This only happens if the person is messing around in his car, typically on his smartphone.

Way more dangerous and way more frequent than drunk driving. We need much tougher laws and enforcement. Smartphones truelove are deadly.

My next door neighbor along with her sister died like this. Just driving down the road. Bam, someone on the smartphone hit them head on. As is always teh case, it seems, the person who caused the accident lived.
