Major League Baseball 2019

Mets just traded Vargas to the Phil's..

Syndergaard will probably be gone in a couple of days. The Stroman deal makes more sense now.

Honestly I would love to see the Mets hold onto Syndergaard and put him in as a closer. Then trade Diaz.. Never happen though..

Nationals 35-15 (.700) since 24 May.

SF on a similar path. That's why they play the games. A team is never out of it in the 1st 3rd of the season.......except for Detroit.....Baltimore.....Miami....
Anyway, my point is, teams can turn a season around on occasion.
That's what makes baseball great.

.

I'm not understanding why the Mets would trade Syndergaard.
True, he's not having a good season, but he won't be an UFA for 2 more seasons.
Giving up on a young guy who throws so hard seems dumb to me.

I'm hearing the brass and even the clubhouse is getting a little tired of Syndergaard's 'act'. It's just rumors so who the hell knows if it's true. ..

Honestly I'm wondering if that may have been a reason why the Jays traded Stroman so cheap.

Sometimes the teams get tired of the prima donnas. See the Steelers and Bell and Brown. All the talent in the world, but eventually the act isn't worth the constant angst.

Bauer from Cleveland to the Reds just now makes about as much sense as the Stroman trade. They’re calling the Reds NYM Central.

Puig heads for the Tribe, and moments later, got in a 2nd brawl this season with the Pirates. Reds give up their #1 prospect to the Padres in that 3-way deal.

So far, this ‘hard’ trade deadline has been a dud, but we still have 17 hours to go.

Maybe teams are re-thinking the wisdom of trading quality players for unproven prospects.
Take, for instance, our closer, Will Smith. He's having a career year for us.
We got him from the Brewers for two of our own prospects.
One of those prospects is in KC now, and the other one is playing Double A ball, I think.
So the Brewers got, essentially, nothing for Smith.
Funny thing is, when SF was looking bad recently, the Brewers were allegedly trying to get Smith back for....prospects.
I get that teams might want to get something for soon-to-be-gone vets, but I don't think it works out so well.
Teams aren't willing to give up their very best young guys for a 2 month rental.

Trevor Bauer's antics were shameful. The Reds are silly giving up a top 30 prospect

Poor Puig getting tossed around like an old ho. And speaking of suck fests, how did the Giants get into 2nd place in the NL west? That division is horrible with the one obvious exception.

Strange trading deadline so for.

Two of the TOP pitchers up for trades go to sub .500 teams. Bauer to the Reds, who are under .500.... Stroman to the Mets, who are also under .500...

That leaves Bumgarner.. Who does he go to??? Marlins? Orioles? Tigers?? lol

SF trades Melancon to Atlanta.
After an injury plagued stay with the Gmen, Melancon had been pitching very well lately.
Maybe a salary dump?
Some of the young Giant relievers have looked good lately, so I guess Melancon was expendable.

Greinke to the Astros. Now that is a big time trade.

For four prospects — 5, 6, 7, and 22 — Greinke struggled when he first went to ARI, and HOU is another hitter’s Park. HOU’s other trade, with TOR, could be the sleeper.

Reds had more activity, giving Gennett to the Giants and Roark to the A’s. Braves got two good relievers. LAD and STL being questioned for sitting on their hands.

SF has sent set-up man Sam Dyson to the Twins.
Dyson has been really good this season and was under team control (arbitration eligible) next year.
This bullpen has been a big part of the Giants' success this tear and I hate to see it being monkeyed with.

Twins really needed the BP help. Early night for me in farm country. Older man tired and sore.

Yikes. Not happy about that trade. OTOH, Greinke is vulnerable in the playoffs and the Dodgers were able to handle him rather easily.

Astros won the deadline.

2020: $65 million
2021: $65 million

About 1/3 of your payroll in two pitchers. One will be 37 next year the other 36.

Different league.. different team, and a MUCH better team. On the Astros he don't have to be the 'man', hell he maybe the 3rd starter.. I think it was a good move by the Astros.

Thinking in Washington has always been that he's a bit like Strasburg, a great talent who does not want to be the leader. As Strasburg slots in well behind the (very) alpha Max Scherzer, Greinke will be comfortable behind Verlander.

Wow.. Only the 2nd inning in the Mets-Pirate game and the Home-plate Ump has already missed about 6-8 pitches. Pitches right down the middle he calls balls, a pitch a foot outside is a strike. This game's going to blow up, soon. Similar to what Sale did in today's Yankee-Red Sox game. Can't blame the players anymore.

Either go with the robots or start firing the bad Umps that don't know what the strike zone is..

It’s a beautiful day to sweep the Brewers!
