Major League Baseball 2019

Only 148 games to go... ;)
God, don't I know it. I have a friend who refuses to watch. He says, "it is a game designed to break your heart." Especially true out here.

Mariners broke an MLB record TODAY. 15 games to start the season with home runs. They'll have to come to earth eventually, but 13-2 is a great start, backed by 36 homers in 15 games.

During the Mets game last night they put up a graphic that showed all 5 teams in the NL East bullpens ERA's are over 5.00...

The Marlins, Phillies and Braves BP's ERA's are all in the 5.00's.. The Mets BP ERA is over 6.30... The Nats was about 7.40..

So it was NOT my imagination, so far this year the bullpens ARE as bad as I've been saying... lol

Dodgers have lost 5 in a row since leaving Colorado, favored in all 5. The talk I hear is about the debilitating effect of playing in Denver. Ryu’s back on the IL. Rockies have lost 7 in a row, including the last two in SF with the previous 5 at home, scoring a total of two runs in 2 days after leaving home.

Starting rotations were discussed by Kirk Herbstreit as one of his passions in sports. He’s 69 and I’m 65 so I am in that mind frame also. Interesting to watch the gamut of team philosophies here, especially when new roles for relievers kick in next year.

For SEA, they’ve gotten their 5 or 6 starters lots of rest, as they tend to fall apart at the end of a season recently. We’re approaching a marathon part of the schedule, such as 20 straight games; and 37 games in 39 days; with a few but not too many DHs for postponements.

Tampa Bay now has 3 starters and 2 openers, up from 2 and 3. Saw a game where the first two pitchers had 2 innings each. The 2nd one got the win, though a pitcher with all 4 innings would not have. (I :lamo at the people at games on their phones who miss the live action).

Chris Davis 3-5, 4 RBI! Trade him now he’s at peak value! Lol!

the yankees won today

this is certainly big news

Mariners, the earth is calling... still, now 17 games in a row with HRs. Dropping two to the Astros, though, is letting them back into the competition. 10% into the season being 13-4 is still a really good start. They remind me of the Seahawks - in 8 years they haven't "Out" of a game more than twice. Mariners can "come back" in any inning. Still really exciting baseball. If they lose today, though, I'll have to temper my enthusiasm.

1. HBPs continue to score and set up scoring but are Not included in WHIP, and should be. 2. ERA for relief pitchers is not indicative of their value. I’d like to see a separate ‘inherited runners’ ERA. 3: 19 games against only 4 teams each within a division is way too many. I’d like to see 15, with the new 16 games gained spread out around the other two divisions in their league. 4: Do away with the 163rd game for tie-breaker and use the 15-games during the season to break ties. 5: These two-game Series, especially interleague, Should go away. Tuesday night/Wednesday afternoon sucks.

The 30 rotations, and how different they are, is one of my top passions in MLB. Contract extensions of younger players stands out right now, avoiding the Harper/Bryant conundrum. As we start our 3rd full week, teams are playing 27 games in the next 28 days and such.

Can anybody throw strikes anymore??

My God!!! Every game I watch this year BOTH teams pitchers go 3-2 on EVERY batter..

MLB wants to speed up the game? Teach the pitchers how to throw strikes. I am a die-hard fan, but lately I find myself flipping around the dial by the 3rd inning of the game I am watching. It's boring as hell seeing BOTH starters at 80 pitches by the 3rd inning!!!!

Mariners HR streak ends at 20 games. :( The earth hit them hard, despite decent pitching.

Half of their team is on the injury list, luckily Sanchez and Stanton should come back next week. Hicks and Miguel Andújar should come back in early May.

Severino and Betances probably June now.

Still, they are a game under 500.

The Mariners are back on the winning track and Home Run dominance. :D Mariners hit four more home runs in 5-3 victory against Angels (Spokane Spokesman-Review)
How important was the homer to the Mariners? Well, they had just six hits in the game. But four of them went over the fence.

“The guys work at-bats really good and when they get their pitch, they can drive the ball out of the park,” Servais said. “It’s everybody contributing to it.”

Seattle pushed its MLB-leading team homer total to 49. The Dodgers are second with 41. The Mariners have hit homers in all but one of their games this season and have scored five-plus runs in their past 11 road games.
Mariners currently stand at 15-8 after 23 games (that's more wins than any other MLB team), but they haven't shown adequate punch against strong teams (Astros, Indians). That could be a problem in the next 139 games.

Ramon Laureano's defense is amazing!

Now Aaron Judge leaves the game injured

It’s not that bad. We’ve only got 1/3 of the 40 man roster on the DL. You have to look at the positives. Half the 25 man roster is still not on the DL...yet.

And we’re still ahead of Boston.

I had no idea you work for the Yankees.

Luckily Clint Frazier is delivering. Once Stanton, Hicks, and Judge return, imo you have to bench/trade Brett Gardner if Frazier is still playing this well.

Jake will be choking Harper before the year is out..

Phillies veteran calls out Bryce Harper for losing his cool..

In the wake of Harper getting ejected in the top of the fourth inning for chirping from the dugout about home-plate umpire Mark Carlson’s balls-and-strike calls, the veteran Arrieta said of the $330 million man: “We need him in right field. I don’t care how bad he is. I need him in right field. I need him at the plate. And he wasn’t there. So it hurts.”

“Because there was normal chirping from the dugout that is in every dugout on every single night,” the Phillies’ skipper said. He added: “Our dugout did not agree with a lot of Mark’s calls. I think everybody can go back and look at the game and form their own opinions.”

However, Kapler’s own starting pitcher Arrieta said, “He missed some pitches, but for both sides. … That happens on a nightly basis, usually. The umpire’s gonna miss some calls. So what? Next pitch. We’ve got a game to play.”
