Major League Baseball 2019

Yeah the Mets position players have scored exactly ZERO runs the last 2 games. But thanks to Syndergaard they came out of those 2 games 1-1.

That said the Reds pitching so far this year has been surprisingly good. Reds are # 1 in the NL, #2 in the MLB(behind Tampa).. I doubt anyone expected that. They are better than the Dodgers? Mets(25th)? Astros? Indians? Nats(24th)? Very impressive.

Mets are 25th? I think they were dead last until the last 2 games(1-0 and 1-0)

Mahle for the Reds today is their #5. Disco yesterday is their #4. Castillo is a great young arm. Gray and Roark at #2 and #3 really haven’t been at their best yet.

Their potential superstar Hunter Greene went down with TJ. While pitchers can ‘throw’ 97 and up, they shouldn’t. Too many TJs. They need to learn to pitch, not throw.

Mea culpa — that will teach the retired teacher to check. It was certainly a Gibson/Carlton type of game.

NL is back over 0.500. Weather is miserable. MLB is my favorite.

I’m with my wife at her teacher’s retirement dinner tonight. Helping with AP Physics lately has been awesome. I now know my mission, to be a helping volunteer in Chem/Physics in retirement. Took ten years to finally figure it out.

I have to say, if I didn’t happen to see that before you posted, I would have thought Gibson too.. I remember him dimly as ‘the enemy’. I think I saw him at Wrigley - at least, that what my older brother tells me.

1958 to 1961 Dad was stationed in Morocco. I vaguely remember Saturday games with the Yankees. (Hamm’s the beer refreshing.)

1961 to 1964 we were at Travis USAF Base north of San Francisco. I idolized Willie Mays. (If we would have been near Pittsburgh, it would have been Roberto Clemente.)

64 to 66 it was Scott USAF Base outside of St. Louis on the Illinois side; just missed Stan the Man. 1966 on it’s been southwest of Chicago; Luis Aparicio and Ernie Banks;

I’ve always loved MLB on radio when I can’t just sit there and watch TV when doing things around the house. Or driving. I like the NFL on radio; they just do a better job; moving left to right on your radio dial;

Gibson came up to Mays once later after a game with his ‘glasses’ on. Think that didn’t make Mays think about chin music?

Mike Maddux was outstanding for you and he’s now outstanding for the Cardinals. Jumping Hellickson and even Sanchez to get Scherzer more starts has burned his arm this early in the season. That’s on Rizzo.

Scherzer has not had a start on less than regular rest.

That’s not the point I made, as you know. Teams forcing a starter to go the entire season on 4 days rest are begging for dead arms multiple times during the season. As well, your #4 and #5 starters aren’t in rhythm for 20 straight days without an off day, such as right now..

I’ve noticed that pitchers for Arizona spring training teams are struggling with their four-seamer and slider in more humid and bad-weather cities. Not enough bite and spin rate. Just the opposite for the two-seamer and curveball, which seam quite active in humidity. Vice-versus in dry climates. As for the changeup, sinker, splitter and spitter, I can’t really make a qualitative statement at this time.

I always use to think that in cold, bad weather April the pitchers were a head of the hitters. This year seems just the opposite. There's been lots of bad weather here in the Northeast and Midwest.. The games I've seen the pitchers just can't seem to get in a rhythm.. They go 3-2 on every hitter. 105 pitches by the 5th inning.. Over and over.

Idk.. Maybe it's the weather.. Maybe it's something else.

I did not misunderstand your point. I just don't think it's much of a point. Scherzer is more than capable of taking his regular turn every time, and neither Sanchez nor Hellickson has rhythm worth scratching Scherzer for.

Hendricks throws an 81 pitch complete game shutout to beat the Cards.

In some circles, that’s known as a ‘Maddux’, and there’s usually only one or two thrown per year in baseball.

And Syndergaard threw a 9 inning game yesterday. Maybe, finally the pitchers are catching up to the hitters.

Thanks. Didnt know that.

The Jays have a rookie named Pearson who's touching 100+ right now.
Cant wait for him to be called up in addition to Vlad Jr.

I don't think any starter can go 100+ consistently in this generation.

Not scratching them, but giving Sanch/Hell their regular turn, and giving Max a 5th day once in a while. But, I realize they have a half billion tied up in 3 pitchers.
