2018-2019 NHL Hockey Thread

Something bad happens every time I watch such a defining game - last time something good happened was when I attended the 1993 game at Skydome when Joe Carter hit his 9th inning walk-off homerun to win the Jays second World Series in a row. Since then, nothing good has happened when I'm in attendance or watching. I've decided I may be a bit of a jinx, and if so I'll stay away for the good of all the other Leaf fans throughout Canada. No fan base has been more loyal and deserves some good outcomes than the Leafs' fan base.

Dude, that's some seriously crazy/insane nonsense right there.

So you're telling me that if you watch Toronto loses? Yet you've watched the three times they've won this series right?

You're also telling me that if Toronto makes the Cup Finals, and it goes to game 7, that you WOULD NOT WATCH?

Sorry dude, but you don't have that kind of power. You don't matter to that team, the refs, the visiting team, the gods or nothing.
They don't even know you exist.

You're powerless to influence a hockey game one way or the other.

POWERLESS.

Watch the game. Cheer for your team. Win or lose support your team by WATCHING them play.

I'm not saying what you're suggesting. I'm simply saying that since 1993 I've not witnessed a defining game where a Toronto team won a "win or go home" game.

It's not a matter of me having "power" - it's a matter of me not being in the mood to experience another strange loss if that is what is in the cards. I've made no commitment or decision other than as it relates to the next game on Tuesday night. If the Leafs happen to win, and I see no reason why they can't, then I'll be on board for the next series against Columbus.

Pretty simple, really.

Refs just waved off a Washington goal in the 3rd with a weak explanation that I understood to say they had intended to blow the whistle before the puck went in. Huh?

No Whistle, game continues.

Preds out, Caps on the brink. Holy crap!

Weak sauce.

Pretty simple really.

Fair enough - you're entitled to your opinion - just not sure why my decision regarding watching game 7 in the Leafs/Bruins series is such a pressing issue that needs to be over analyzed.

Good luck tonight CJ!

Good luck tonight CJ!

Why wish him luck? He said he won't be watching.

You'd be better off wishing me luck. I'll be watching. I'm hoping for a Toronto win.
I've watched the majority of the Boston/Toronto series and it's been a gas to watch.

No true fan would NOT watch a game 7 of a SC playoff series involving their team.

Good luck tonight CJ!

Thanks, although I'm not the one or one of the ones that need it. And, actually, I'd settle for no bad luck such as bouncing pucks and goal posts, etc. Pretty even series with the Leafs being a little better 5 on 5 and the Bruins much better at special teams play. I'll be quite disappointed if the Leafs lose tonight, considering how the road to the Stanley Cup seems to have opened wide and if Washington should lose tonight, it will be similar to when Carolina beat Edmonton in the Cup about a decade ago.

I'd even leave work early so as to get me some snacks that won't require extended periods of time spent in the kitchen.

Please leave me out of your feud. I neither care about it nor am interested in it.

Oh my gosh I am so darn glad to read someone else feel this way. When my Blue Jackets first made it to the playoffs, every time I was able to watch the game they lost. When I wasn't able to they won. I started to feel like a jinx too. But this last game cured me of that. Everyone here thinks the Leafs will win their game and your Leafs and my Blue Jackets will be meeting soon. Best to your team CJ.

Thanks Vesper - just so you know, if the Leafs lose, I'm adopting the Blue Jackets as the team I'll cheer for going forward, but I'll do it surreptitiously in order not to jinx them!!

Looks like the Leafs are toast.

Look forward to hearing whining how it’s the bad refs, or the bad coaching, or the meanie Bruin players, or the bad bounces.

But watching the game, it’s clear the Bruins were... better.

Let’s go Columbus!

Not something I will say often...

I totally get why CJ chose not to watch.

Congrats to the Bruins and their fans. Wishing the Blue Jackets' fans lots of fun and excitement, and great success going forward - love that your team took the all in leap and hope you get rewarded for it.

See you all back here next fall.

Let's go Raptors!!

OK, that was the damnedest third period I may have ever seen.

And San Jose advances in one of the most bizarre fashions I have seen.

4-goal Major, I love it. Teach that POS to play dirty.

Oh stop.

Bruins first goal was absolutely a horrible goal that Anderson should have had without any problems. How that puck made it in is just jaw dropping.
Especially when watching from the camera inside the net looking out.
Bruins second goal was a massive failure by the Toronto defenseman.

So yeah - Toronto gave the Bruins two (which was all it took for that game), but then Toronto basically dominated the Bruins for large portions of the next 30 minutes of play. The problem was that Rask played real well. The Bruins themselves were being very sloppy and it's rather amazing that Toronto couldn't at least tie that game up and make it real interesting.

Out of 60 minutes the Bruins were maybe better for 15 minutes of the game.
The other 45 minutes the Maple Leafs were clearly the better team on the ice.

One thing is for sure, Taveras did NOT live up to the hype.

That game was absolutely winnable for the Leafs. Two very unfortunate mistakes early in game were tough to overcome, but Tuukka Rask was the Bruins saving grace. Plus having the only two powerplays of the game, and coming up with zilch hurt too.

At the end of the second period the Leafs could have easily been ahead 4-2. They just couldn't beat Rask.

So ultimately it wasn't that the Bruins were better, it's that the Leafs sort of beat themselves.

Looking forward to tonight's game 7. Go Hurricanes!!!!

I guess if we pretend a stellar goaltending performance somehow doesn’t count, and one team making mistakes while the other doesn’t isn’t ‘performance’, I guess you’re right.

Either way... I’m hoping for the Islanders to meet the Blues, and the Blues to yet again crush any hopes their fans might have to ever see a winner.

Let’s go Columbus!

Not something I will say often...

Me too, and me neither!

The Rangers fans in my household (all of us) are now solidly behind the Blue Jackets. They peaked at the right time, that's for sure.
