Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer divided on length of tennis matches

Federer extremely old in tennis years wants to keep the longer format while Joker wants shorter match becuase apparently young people are to ADD to sit through a tennis match although I suspect ulterior motives.

I like longer games/matches if its a good match and the stakes are high I want to watch as much of it as possible.

I hate when important games are deiced by the silly time savers

I don't think it's enough of a reason to break status quo.

But... I don't think I would be upset either way.

I think baseball games ought to be shorter. Players spend too much time spitting, talking to each other and standing around- there ought to be a pitch clock, like the shot clock in basketball. Plus innings will keep going until one team wins- they need to put in stuff like penalty battings like penalty kicks in soccer.

Regular season go for it (like hockey) but no way would I want the world series to be decided by a "penalty batting"

No but baseball games should. Major yawn!

No. You can do a 3 set match in under 1 and half hours easy.

Baseball and American football could use less time though.. and Cricket.

Soccer too. All they do is kick the ball back and forth. And the guy guarding the goal can catch it, and back and forth we go again...WTF?

BTW, not to hijack your thread here, but wasn't there a move to slow the tennis ball down? Maybe make it a tiny bit larger, or put longer fuzz on it. These guys are hitting bullets which created it's own special boredom.

Yes! Set a time limit.

Especially in kids' tennis. I've had to sit through split-set 4-hour marathon matches between girls who could lob the ball back and forth for 15 minutes without anyone making a point.

Enough already.

It takes whatever time it takes. If time is a concern, don't participate or tune-in.

I remember being a kid and got hooked on tennis because of that legendary Wimbledon 5 set, 5 hour final between Borg and McEnroe. Since then, there have been many epic 5 set-ers that were nail-biting from the 1st set.

What does need to be shortened, though, are the Grand Slam events that do not have tie-breakers in the 5th set. A few years back John Isner took the 5th set at Wimbledon 70-68. That is wrong on so many levels.

it also guarantees the winner is not able to compete in the next round

The US Open does have a fifth set tie breaker. Right now there is an excellent match in the first round. Stanimal vs #5 seed Grigor Dimitriov. Two of the most beautiful one hand backhands in history. Piss poor luck for GD who is really playing one of the top 8 players in the world and GD is down to sets
