The world cup is over, and that means the new season starts in a months time.

EPL:

Man City is still the team to beat. Contenders are Liverpool and Man U. Tottenham could be with some new signings. Chealski is in utter chaos, and Arsenal is rebuilding.

La Liga:

Real and Barca are of course the top there, but how will Real cope without Ronaldo. Valencia and A. Madrid might be contenders as well this season due to changes at Real and Barca.

Ligue 1:

PSG and Monaco.. cant see anyone else.

Serie A:

Juve have to be favourites due to Ronaldo. Napoli will meddle, and so will Inter. Ac Milan have been hit by a 2 year ban, so their chances are slim. The rest.. maybe... Roma, Lazio..

Biggest news is so far that Ronaldo has gone to Italy... and sold half his price in new shirts the first few days...

Second biggest might be Liverpool breaking world records getting Romas goalkeeper.. 66 million pounds.. wtf?! He aint that good... sigh.

Boy prices are nuts for players. Liverpool paying 70+ million euros for a freaking goalkeeper and now Everton in advanced talks to buying a Watford player for 50 million pounds... is the EPL going crazy or something?

One can argue that's been the case since The Invincibles.

If you're going to break the bank on a Brazilian footballer, you buy an amazing striker or creative midfielder who can dribble past 5 men with ease. Whoever heard of brilliant Brazilian goalkeepers before? Everyone in Brazil wants to be the new Pele / Zico / Rivellino /Ronaldinho / Socrates etc etc

I don't get it.

Actually there has been some fantastic Brazilian goalkeepers through history.. Taffarel, Dida, Julio Cesar, .. Point is that much money for any player let alone a goalkeeper.

It was tongue in cheek.

Had to vote United to win it this year, but that's my heart talking. I expect City to be tough to beat this year, but I think we have the squad to mount a challenge.

I think this has been the quietest transfer window in EPL history. Only Liverpool have significantly added to their squads. City have bought just 3 players: Mahrez, 18-year-old Claudio Gomez from PSG, and 21-year-old Philippe Sandler from Zwolle. I doubt the latter have cost us an arm and a leg.

I think that Liverpool are going to be City's closest rivals. I think Tottenham are going backwards, but Arsenal and Chelsea will be better than last season. I also think that other teams will improve significantly, while not contesting for the title. I'd put Everton, West Ham and Southampton in that category.

Can't wait for things to get going. City for the title, natch! And the CL, and the FA Cup.

Just a quick question: why'd you make the poll anonymous? I'd like to know who votes for the donkeys.

Alisson
Fabinho
Naby Keita
Xherdan Shaqiri

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Welcome to LFC.

I'm sitting watching the Community Shield match with my LFC-supporting nephew. He's quite excited at the prospect of this coming season. Now I've watched a slightly weakened City dominate Chelsea for 45 minutes, so am I!

Dida was horrendous, I have never seen a keeper struggle more with crosses.

Yea and despite that he won more titles than any English player in the last many decades :)

In fairness he didn't win that much, just the one league title to his name. He did of course win the European cup twice but I mean that doesn't really mean anything, Barthez won the world cup.

Yea the CL twice, league once plus cup.. oh yea and that pesky World Cup win was nothing :) Face it, it was a top goalkeeper at a top club.

I never rated him nor did I rate Cesar either who has a lot of critics in Brazil.

Dida is not amongst the greatest keepers. He was okay, but had some howlers...

Not WHO I want to win but who I THINK will win - Man City.

Leicester just don't have the team and manager to mount a challenge especially having sold Mahrez to City this year and Kante to Chelsea 2 years ago
Man U - Mourinho is playing a strange game. For me, I would have hired in N'Golo Kante to sit alongside Paul Pogba to create a really strong midfield. I think they will push City hard but lose crucial games.
Liverpool - perennial underachievers. Some bright stars but not enough of a team to break Liverpool's Premier League duck.
Chelsea - dark horses, with Sarri as manager they could turn things around. They will push Liverpool and Man U for 2nd place but the owner may demand results this year which will not help Sarri.
Arsenal - rebuilding, I expect them to struggle unless Unai Emery really hits the ground running and gels together a strong team.
Spurs - will threaten but not strong enough in the back to keep enough better teams out.

Newcastle / Brighton / Everton / Burnley etc in midfield.

Cardiff / Bournemouth I think are certain to go down.

Apparently Wolves are highly fancied by the bookies to win the league if any of the top six usual suspects look the other way.

Pogba to Barca rumours simply don't want to die.... if true and it happens... Mouriho is 1000% at fault and that should end his career imo.

Ffs Chelski blow 71 million on a goalkeeper.... absolutely insane for a non international.

That’s the new norm now unfortunately.

Everton might have just become a dark horse with the signing of Mina and Gomez.....
