Wimbledon - Del Potro

Good lord, three straight sets went to tiebreaks for Anderson/Isner. It's really a nail biter.

Good lord, yeah. I'm not watching, though. Doing other stuff, and really not sure I want the stress of it today. Just following the live scoretracker is harrowing enough.

Generally speaking, I don't know why more people don't like watching tennis. I consider it to be a very exciting sport and fun to watch.

I've loved it for almost 40 years.

Here's probably my favorite match of all time, called by the inestimable, classic team of Enberg/Collins:

You simply do not see net play like that anymore.

13-13 now. This could go on for hours. I wonder if Nadal and Djokovic will get their whole match in.

Man, it seems like neither can score a break point. May be here for awhile.

Damn. I last posted almost an hour ago, and it's STILL going on.

What's amazing is that 47 games into the 5th set, there has been only ONE break of serve this WHOLE match.

Yeah, pretty much I think the next one to win a break wins the match.

Yup...well crud, I was really rooting for Isner. Good lord that was a marathon match though.

I was too.

A 50-game fifth set. As I said, they really need to take a look at limiting that. Call it the Isner Rule.

So apparently now Isner holds the longest and second longest match times at Wimbledon. This game was 6 hrs, 36 min. Still a far cry from his #1

The guy's got stamina. Apparently so does Anderson. But after two long 5-setters, how much does he have left?

It certainly does take a toll. I think you're right, that they may just need to have a tiebreak after a certain number of matches. These long 5th sets are even hard to watch as a fan, lol.

And did Nadal/Djokovic had to wait for that to be over before their match could begin, I don't think it was scheduled this late. Maybe it was, I hadn't looked at the times. But it seems that since they were both slated for center court matches, they were just going to go back-to-back.

They've always played the semi-final double-header on Centre Court. But it's after 8 pm in London right now. There's hardly any time left. Even with the roof I think they can only play to 9:30 because of local noise regulations.

Well they'd better get a move on then, no 5th set marathons here.

If it goes too long, it'll have to be extended into tomorrow, before the women's final.

I guess they changed it. They can play until 11 pm.

Anderson just refuses to lose. Amazing.

Another 5th-set grinder.

Serena looked like she never woke up this morning.

Some big surprises, no Nadal or Federer. Serena didnt look great today, but seriously did have a great Wimbledon I thought and am glad to see that she's still in form.

I generally tend to think I've seen everything that can happen in tennis, but I don't think I've ever seen this before:

Seeing as he broke the guy 3 times he only needed to win 3 games on his serve. 12 for 12. Not common but not that rare I bet.

Yeah, it's hardcore, but also not super likely. But perchance they should put an upper limit on things. I looks like that only the US Open has tiebreak on the final set.

Nadal/Del Potro's second set went long even in the tie break, they're tied up one set each.

Of note, Wimbledon and the Australian have instituted 5th set breakers. AUS after 9-9; Wimbledon after 12-12.
